No Worrals, he said JULIE GILLARD. I nearly choked on my lunch.

Hempy 6th Feb 2015 07:02

And the man is in charge of the defense of the Nation... :ugh:

Worrals in the wilds 6th Feb 2015 07:05

Xanana Gusmao has tendered his resignation as PM of East Timor.
Has Rudd bought a batik shirt and a ticket to Dili yet? :E
SOPS, that's unfknblvbl. Sorry to doubt you!

SOPS 6th Feb 2015 07:13

I just hope no one invades us while he is in charge of defence.

Stanwell 6th Feb 2015 07:48

A bit of advice:
Don't raise Andrews' name in front of serving Defence personnel.

CoodaShooda 6th Feb 2015 10:02

Or long term Territorians.

Meanwhile....memo to ABC Radio News editors

By all means run with the intro that"Cabinet Minister Ian MacFarlane does not believe Tony Abbott has the numbers to win next Tuesday's leadership ballot."

But do't spoil it by going on to talk about "the spill motion brought on by two WA backbenchers." A spill motion is not a leadership ballot. It may only lead to one.

And definitely don't play the recording of Ian Mac where he says "I'm not going to speculate on that. Cabinet is solid behind Tony Abbott. I haven't been polling the backbench but a number of backbenchers have rung me to express their total support for the PM and disgust at the behaviour of a few." (Or words to that effect)

ABC Fact checkers. Where are you?

Correct, of course. ABC24 was also confused about whether it would be a secret ballot and devoted way too much talk time to an issue SBS covered quite quickly.

If it happens, please don't let it be Turnbull :{

What did we ever do to deserve this tragic sequence of governmental disasters over the last years? I fear that we are cursed - and, it would seem - eventually doomed to become another Greece or Italy (or worse).

CoodaShooda 6th Feb 2015 10:49

Time for wild predictions?

Abbott to stay. :E

Alternatively

Morrison/Pyne on a joint ticket with Turnbull as Treasurer.

Worrals in the wilds 6th Feb 2015 10:56

Morrison/Pyne on a joint ticket
Ewww, yucko :yuk:. Exchanging one right wing, irritating big L Lib with a born-to-rule attitude for two of the same. :( That's deckchairs on the Titanic stuff.
It's hard to find a federal pollie who's more unpopular than Abbott but I think Pyne fits the bill, and Morrison and Abbetz are close runners up. I've been following poltiics since about 1988, and in all that time Pyne is the only politician I would happily punch (luckily provocation is still a defence in Queensland :}). Nasty, smarmy little man with a big sense of entitlement.
You'd be better off sticking with Abbott.

CoodaShooda 6th Feb 2015 10:59

Couldn't be worse than Shorten.:p

Might not be any better....but certainly couldn't be worse. :E

Worrals in the wilds 6th Feb 2015 11:14

Shorten's got a very easy job at the moment. STFU and STF down; pending next Tuesday's outcome he may actually have to do some work. The alternative was Albanese; I think Shorten was the better choice.

Fubaar 6th Feb 2015 19:05

I find myself in furious agreement with you, Worrals. If the Libs banned Pyne from appearing in front of a camera or speaking into a microphone and let him do whatever it is he does away from the public eye, their polling would skyrocket overnight.

If Turnbull fails on Tuesday, he has to go. At least to the back bench. If he wins, the voters, (if not necessarily in his own electorate), we see that he goes as leader at the next election. I don't for one minute believe he'll drag the polling numbers for the Libs up to the levels the ALPBC and Channel 7 are quoting for more than a week or so. Any middle of the road voters he pulls into the Liberal tent will be outnumbered by the number of conservative voters who'll abandon the Libs.

The Nationals would do well to field candidates in every electorate in 2016. I think a lot of conservatives will vote for the Nationals rather than the Libs under Turnbull if given the chance.

Become soft and full of unrealistic expectations. Listen to the media, etc. etc

I'd vote for the party with the wife cheating accused rapist in charge out of spite. That said if the Nats could field enough cannidates and had one in my area, and looks like they where going to hurt the Libs I might think about them.

Ethel the Aardvark 6th Feb 2015 22:21

Oh dear, the way The man formally known as Dum Dum has treated Bishop this week is nothing short of unbelievable. Apparently last week when she arrived back from the Middle East she phoned him offering her support and an offer to help him write his speech for the Press club, he apparently was a nasty pr$ck to her and has now banned her from a charity raiser with Turnbull. Along with other unmentionables. Not the way to treat your best ally. Do we see a women hating pattern happening Again..

rh200 6th Feb 2015 22:53

Did you run that post past Malcom first Ethel?:p

parabellum 6th Feb 2015 23:07

Ethel - Just off the 'phone talking to someone who is definitely 'in the know', he is calling your bluff, no such encounter took place. Bishop is very highly regarded by the PM. Any credible sources for your allegations?

........................................................

As long as the ALP, the Greens and certain cross-benchers maintain a 'block everything regardless' stance towards an LNP government it really doesn't matter who leads the Government, the outcome will be the same as it has been for the past year or more. A personal opinion but I think it is a shame this is happening now, six months prior to the next election with Bishop taking over leadership would have been a good time.

According to various talking heads on TV this morning if Abbott loses the spill then the way is clear for anyone to nominate for the top jobs, no one is required to nominate whilst Abbott is still their elected leader. It is not necessarily just a two horse race.

alisoncc 6th Feb 2015 23:38

Sorry Parabellum, but Abbott and his mates did exactly the same in opposition.

parabellum 6th Feb 2015 23:45

Don't think so Alison, Rudd/Gillard/Rudd never came up with anything worthwhile to block! ;) Whatever Abbott and his mates blocked was for the public good! :)

Ethel the Aardvark 6th Feb 2015 23:51

No worries Bellium, it's just a continuation of the Andrew Robb chaperone treatment for Bishop in Peru. Re check your sauce :O
Interesting that the little Pitt bull Kellie O has been so quiet.
I was asking after Pyne the other day and I am glad he didn't disapoint.
Kevin Andrews is pure gold..
I have been warning you righties for months now that this was on the cards. And good or bad Turnbull is the only viable candidate. Bishop might take her gloves off once the spill is started but preventing asbestosis victims getting due compensation is not the best resume I would like for our PM
