Conroy takes the cake | Catallaxy Files

Conroy takes the cake

Posted on June 1, 2013 by Judith Sloan

I have just been reading the transcript of the Senate Estimates hearing in which Eric Abetz attempts to ask ABC managing director, Mark Scott, about the appointment of overtly partisan leftoid, Russell Skelton, to the position of head fact-checker at the ABC. (Available over at Andrew Bolt’s website.)

What a complete joke, but actually Mark Scott was able to avoid answering the questions by virtue of the irresponsible and puerile interruptions of Senator Conroy. And is there not a point that the ABC is a statutory authority and not a government department, so Conroy should have largely remained silent?

The senator’s performance removes any doubt about Conroy being a witless, unintelligent, immature and boorish grub who is completely unfit to be a Minister of the Crown.

And to think he is overseeing the largest government funded boondoggle without a cost-benefit analysis. And to think that this is the man who came within a whisker of clamping down on freedom of speech. Had it not been for his complete incompetence and impatience – the independents were kindly disposed to the idea of Conroy’s legislation – the bill may well have passed. (Is this possibly a case of so bad being so good?)

I am thinking of running a book on the worst minister of this Labor government. Yes, I know fish rot from the head down and all that, but I am not including the PM in my list of starters.

There are a lot of contenders and perhaps I need to refine some criteria for the awarding of the big reverse elephant stamp. But it is hard to go past:

The Treasurer (Swan), for his failure to achieve a budget surplus plus other assorted misdemeanors;

Workplace Relations Minister(Shorten), for pushing a brazenly pro-union piece of legislation to greater heights and overseeing some egregious appointments for mates;

Immigration Minister (O’Connor), for completely failing to deal with the uncontrolled arrival of boats and the implications;

Foreign Minister (Carr), for pouncing around the world with his wife concentrating on the unimportant issues;

Climate change minister (Combet), for keeping faith when everyone else is retreating, wasting billions in green schemes and to agreeing to the most ridiculous predictions on carbon prices in the forward estimates;

Former AG (Roxy), arguably the worse AG we have ever had until the new one was appointed;

Childcare Minister (Ellis), for overseeing a disaster in the childcare space with ridiculously burdensome regulations and skyrocketing fees;

School education minister (Garrett), for promoting something he doesn’t understand and spending money we cannot afford which is actually just a sop to the Australian Education Union.

Now I know there are other contenders, but I am getting tired of typing. Thoughts on criteria very welcome, as well as other contenders.

RJM 1st Jun 2013 11:24

It would be interesting to see inside the skeleton-filled cupboards of people like former AG 'more time with my family' Roxon, Mark 'let someone else have a go' Arbib and former NSW treasurer Eric 'thanks for the Maroubra apartment, mate' Roozendaal before they scampered off with their super.

Arbib and Roozendaal were involved in some hooley dooleys of deals with developers. In the most notorious case, Arbib's wife Kelli Field, a former chief of staff to another NSW treasurer and now a director of Macquarie Bank, scored a luxury apartment at way below market price in a deal that rang bells across NSW, where fortunately most fraud authorities are stone deaf.

These people put themselves up for public scrutiny (of a sort) when running for ofice. How about a bit of a debrief on retiring?

That goes for the whole lot of them - Libs, Greens and independents.

Larry Pickering's latest editorial has sparked quite a few replies, some of them rather intemperate.

Julia Gillard’s tenure at the helm started with the knifing of a colleague, backed by union thugs, and will end with an NDIS hoax and a Gonski scheme that even Gonski says her implementation of is flawed... all in between is a thoroughly expensive mess.

It’s impossible to list the disasters of Gillard’s three destructive years but any disinterested observer will expose her Government’s “initiatives” to a cost/benefit analysis retrospectively. That will be $350 billion versus minus zero.

But what will burn deep in the hearts of voters in 20 marginal seats where they cast their vote on Sept 14?

Why do they hate her so much?

Her endless lies? No, all politicians lie.

Rudd’s assassination? Not really, he was already a disaster and became an unpopular union footstool for Gillard’s ascension.

Perhaps a Carbon Tax? Nup, we are resilient enough to withstand a global warming scam.

Gillard’s criminal past? That should be a factor but the Left of the media has resolutely refused to confront it.

Endemic ALP corruption? That should also be a factor but even that won’t drive the anti Gillard vote.

The faceless men? No, most of them have been paid off or are sitting in Parliament.

The wasted billions? Not really, massive debt is expected from Labor.
The NBN fiasco? Well, you have to ask why historic Europe hasn’t dug up its cobble stone roads, but ALP computer geeks will love it until radio renders it obsolete. (If it hasn’t already.)

A Gonski dream? Mmm, money can’t buy Prime Ministerial literacy but if it assists in her numeracy, that would be a plus.

The NDIS hoax? I guess converting Parliament House to a hospice for the mentally disabled will be quite expensive but well worth it.

Gillard’s predilection for married men? No, it takes two to tango and anyway a single hot-blooded woman is entitled to her various sexual escapades.
The threat of arrest by the Fraud Squad? Nar, Vicpol can’t be seen to be politicising an election... later maybe.

A One World Government from her UN seat? Don’t think so. Not after that Eurozone test case.

No, and none of a hundred other reasons not to vote ALP will matter... except one:

Australians will vent their wrath over their broken borders and the violent Islamisation of their suburbs.

It could have easily been prevented but UN political correctness has rendered Gillard spayed and incapable of stemming the unprocessed tide of Islamic unknowns.

This Government remains blind to the tragedy of European multiculturalism and to the resultant terrorism it has wreaked on its people who are now frightened to walk home at night.

The laissez faire approach taken by Labor toward what can only be described as an illegal Islamic marine invasion is why Gillard is a dead woman walking.

We Aussies are normally a forgiving lot but Gillard's deliberate trashing of our border security is beyond absolution.

The Islamic ghettos of Sydney’s lawless west (the west that was once Labor’s nursery) are now set to destroy it.

Islamic voters might treasure Gillard’s social largesse but their vote means nothing when they congregate in the one electorate... an electorate that was formerly safely Labor anyway.

Voters' hatred of Gillard is intense and unprecedented... those sandwiches thrown by kids reflect their parents’ deep-seated anger.

Gillard is already condemned to the wrong side of history and she doesn’t even realise it.
WHY VOTERS WANT GILLARD'S BLOOD - The Pickering Post

sisemen 2nd Jun 2013 01:29

Worth quoting one of the posters to the Pickering thread:

And Tony Abbott's government will be judged on how it handles the Islamic question. At the moment it is softly softly on multiculturalism, despite the failure of this delusional policy all around the world. Has the Muslim vote already reached the point where neither side of politics can afford to offend them? The Australia is truly lost! Here are the facts:

Adapted from Dr. Peter Hammond's book: Slavery, Terrorism and Islam: The Historical Roots and Contemporary Threat:

Islam is not a religion, nor is it a cult. In its fullest form, it is a complete, total, 100% system of life, a government.

Islam has religious, legal, political, economic, social, and military components. The religious component is a beard for all of the other components.

Islamisation begins when there are sufficient Muslims in a country to agitate for their religious privileges. When politically correct, tolerant, and culturally diverse societies agree to Muslim demands for their religious privileges, some of the other components tend to creep in as well.

Here's how it works:

As long as the Muslim population remains around or under 2% in any given country, they will be for the most part be regarded as a peace-loving minority, and not as a threat to other citizens. This is the case in:

United States — Muslim 0.6%
Australia — Muslim 1.5%
Canada — Muslim 1.9%
China — Muslim 1.8%
Italy — Muslim 1.5%
Norway — Muslim 1.8%

At 2% to 5%, they begin to proselytize from other ethnic minorities and disaffected groups, often with major recruiting from the jails and among street gangs. This is happening in:

Denmark — Muslim 2%
Germany — Muslim 3.7%
United Kingdom — Muslim 2.7%
Spain — Muslim 4%
Thailand — Muslim 4.6%

From 5% on, they exercise an inordinate influence in proportion to their percentage of the population. For example, they will push for the introduction of halal (clean by Islamic standards) food, thereby securing food preparation jobs for Muslims. They will increase pressure on supermarket chains to feature halal on their shelves — along with threats for failure to comply. This is occurring in:

France — Muslim 8%
Philippines — Muslim 5%
Sweden — Muslim 5%
Switzerland — Muslim 4.3%
The Netherlands — Muslim 5.5%
Trinidad & Tobago — Muslim 5.8%

At this point, they will work to get the ruling government to allow them to rule themselves (within their ghettos) under sharia, the Islamic Law. The ultimate goal of Islamists is to establish sharia law over the entire world.

When Muslims approach 10% of the population, they tend to increase lawlessness as a means of complaint about their conditions. In Paris, we are already seeing car-burnings. Any non-Muslim action offends Islam, and results in uprisings and threats, such as in Amsterdam, with opposition to Mohammed cartoons and films about Islam. Such tensions are seen daily, particularly in Muslim sections, in:

Guyana — Muslim 10%
India — Muslim 13.4%
Israel — Muslim 16%
Kenya — Muslim 10%
Russia — Muslim 15%

After reaching 20%, nations can expect hair-trigger rioting, jihad militia formations, sporadic killings, and the burnings of Christian churches and Jewish synagogues, such as in:

Ethiopia — Muslim 32.8%

At 40%, nations experience widespread massacres, chronic terror attacks, and ongoing militia warfare, such as in:

Bosnia — Muslim 40%
Chad — Muslim 53.1%
Lebanon — Muslim 59.7%

From 60%, nations experience unfettered persecution of nonbelievers of all other religions (including nonconforming Muslims), sporadic ethnic cleansing (genocide), use of sharia law as a weapon, and jizya, the tax placed on infidels, such as in:

Albania — Muslim 70%
Malaysia — Muslim 60.4%
Qatar — Muslim 77.5%
Sudan — Muslim 70%

After 80%, expect daily intimidation and violent jihad, some State-run ethnic cleansing, and even some genocide, as these nations drive out the infidels, and move toward 100% Muslim, such as has been experienced and in some ways is ongoing in:

Bangladesh — Muslim 83%
Egypt — Muslim 90%
Gaza — Muslim 98.7%
Indonesia — Muslim 86.1%
Iran — Muslim 98%
Iraq — Muslim 97%
Jordan — Muslim 92%
Morocco — Muslim 98.7%
Pakistan — Muslim 97%
Palestine — Muslim 99%
Syria — Muslim 90%
Tajikistan — Muslim 90%
Turkey — Muslim 99.8%
United Arab Emirates — Muslim 96%

100% will usher in the peace of “Dar-es-Salaam” — the Islamic House of Peace. Here there's supposed to be peace, because everybody is a Muslim, the madrassas are the only schools, and the Koran is the only word, such as in:

Afghanistan — Muslim 100%
Saudi Arabia — Muslim 100%
Somalia — Muslim 100%
Yemen — Muslim 100%

Unfortunately, peace is never achieved, as in these 100% states the most radical Muslims intimidate and spew hatred, and satisfy their blood lust by killing less radical Muslims, for a variety of reasons.

“Before I was nine I had learned the basic canon of Arab life. It was me against my brother; me and my brother against our father; my family against my cousins and the clan; the clan against the tribe; the tribe against the world, and all of us against the infidel.” — Leon Uris, “The Haj”

It is important to understand that in some countries, with well under 100% Muslim populations, such as France, the minority Muslim populations live in ghettos, within which they are 100% Muslim, and within which they live by sharia law. The national police do not even enter these ghettos. There are no national courts, nor schools, nor non-Muslim religious facilities. In such situations, Muslims do not integrate into the community at large. The children attend madrassas. They learn only the Koran. To even associate with an infidel is a crime punishable with death. Therefore, in some areas of certain nations, Muslim Imams and extremists exercise more power than the national average would indicate.

Today's 1.5 billion Muslims make up 22% of the world's population. But their birth rates dwarf the birth rates of Christians, Hindus, Buddhists, Jews, and all other believers. Muslims will exceed 50% of the world's population by the end of this century.

Most if not all of these right-wingers (whingers?) are so full of hatred and bile that its no longer funny. All they, and the right-wing shock jocks of the ilk that one hears on 2GB in Sydney, do nothing more than stir up hatred and division within our society. The politicians do a good job of that themselves without any encouragement from the boundary line.

I must be honest and say that I fear for our children's and grand-children's futures as the country moves inexorably to the far right of the political spectrum. I realise a lot around here won't agree with my sentiments so may I get in first and suggest no character assassination? We've had enough of that in the last week with respect to racial discrimination as a couple of noted, but perhaps infamous, right-wingers in the media adding a lot of insult to the injury.

Most if not all of these right-wingers (whingers?) are so full of hatred and bile that its no longer funny.
And what fact is that statement based on? Your opinion? and of course you. like everyone else is entitled to have one. but, where in the Western world are people regularly blowing people up indiscriminately because they belong to a different brand of Islam? There is no doubt differences of opinions among Christian faiths, but I cannot recollect the last time Anglicans blew up any Catholics, or Baptists blew up Methodists, or any Christian followers blew up others because of their version of Christian faith.

I consider myself a right winger, I consider that statement of yours quite ridiculous, the facts in the post of siseman re Islamic numbers in populations, and the effect on those populations is a statement of fact, not huggy fluff opinion. Because one can see the effect of this so called religion does not make one full of "hatred and bile", just realistic.

Ken Borough 2nd Jun 2013 05:38

Prospector,

Greetings from the Main Island! :ok:

You have completely misunderstood the thoughts behind my post - perhaps if you lived in Australia you'd have a better understanding of what I was trying to say!! And while I'm in denial mode, I didn't read Siseman's post: my comments had nought to do with religion. There is more than religious hatred out there - political and other forms of bigotry are alive and well.

Dark Knight 2nd Jun 2013 05:39

And what was and where did the `racial discrimination’ arise from last week?

The `Indigenous Round’ of AFL football which in the following weeks will be followed by the `Other Peoples’ round thence the Woman’s Round.

I once was under the impression we were Aussies playing Aussie Rules Football for the fun and enjoyment of it.

However, no more, we must kowtow the Politically Correct minorities with much more to come.

The `Indigenous Round’ of football is based racialism and division as is the Aboriginal Flag both are always going to create or be used to create problems as is evident by the opportunity being seized last week.

It is also part of the plan for the proposed changes to the Australian Constitution to acknowledge the `First Peoples’ i.e. Aboriginals within it, a move which will include racism and division within it!

I was under the impression OUR Constitution was for all Australians regardless of Race, Colour or Creed?

Have no illusions, the forces at work at present are clearly designed to limit freedom of speech with anyone who dares in the future to speak against including this racially motivated and divisive change to OUR Constitution to be labelled as a Racist and Muzzled!

Ken, with opinions like that, you'd be a soo-in for a guest spot on Channel 10's 'The Project' or any ABC current affairs or opinion programme.

I too fear for our children's and grandchildren's future, but perhaps not for the same reasons that you do. The 'far right of the political spectrum' that I fear can be heard almost every night on the news shouting 'Wa Allah akbar" as they film an atrocity that (they say) the other side, (who in the most popular war of the month often as not also shouts "Wa Allah akbar"), has committed.

The June tally has started already.

Border Protection Command intercepts vessels
2 June 2013
HMAS Bathurst, operating under the control of Border Protection Command, intercepted a suspected irregular entry vessel north-west of Christmas Island on Friday.
Initial indications suggest there were 71 people on board.
The vessel was initially detected by a RAAF maritime patrol aircraft, operating under the control of Border Protection Command.
Border Protection Command has now transferred the passengers to Australian Government authorities on Christmas Island, where they will undergo initial security, health and identity checks and their reasons for travel will be established.
HMAS Albany, operating under the control of Border Protection Command, separately intercepted a suspected irregular entry vessel north-east of Ashmore Islands on Thursday.
Initial indications suggest there are 86 people on board.
The vessel was initially detected by a Customs and Border Protection Dash 8 surveillance aircraft, operating under the control of Border Protection Command.
Border Protection Command will now make arrangements for the passengers to be transferred to Australian Government authorities in Darwin, where they will undergo initial security, health and identity checks and their reasons for travel will be established.
People arriving by boat without a visa after 13 August 2012 run the risk of transfer to a regional processing country.
Media contact: Minister Clare’s office - 02 6277 7290
It will be interesting to see what the June total gets to. Perhaps we should run a book.

We've had enough of that in the last week with respect to racial
discrimination as a couple of noted, but perhaps infamous, right-wingers in the media adding a lot of insult to the injury.
I think we would all be better off if people took the trouble to understand the terms 'racist' and 'racism'. A thirteen year old girl telling a big, dark hairy man he looks like 'an Ape' is school yard stuff and Apes are not a race.

Eddie was suggesting the same big, dark hairy man could promote a 'King Cong' film, unwise, also childish, a bit rude, but neither of these incidents is even vaguely racist or are they racism, again, Apes are not a race. We have little chance of advancing towards eliminating racism if people continue to use these terms totally incorrectly and out of context without having a clue what they mean.

Takan Inchovit 2nd Jun 2013 08:48

sisemen 2nd Jun 2013 09:24

Coincidentally, this arrived in my inbox and I post it here merely as a polemical piece and I offer no other comment....other than, for Ken's benefit - it's the cracks in everything that let the light shine in.

This is by far the best explanation of the Muslim terrorist situation I have ever read.
The author's references to past history are accurate and clear. It's not a lengthy read, it's easy to understand, and it's well worth the read.
The author of this email is Dr.Emanuel Tanya, a well-known and well-respected psychiatrist.

A man, whose family was German aristocracy prior to World War II, owned a number of large industries and estates.
When he was asked how many German people were true Nazis, the answer he gave can guide our attitude toward fanaticism.

'Very few people were true Nazis,' he said, 'but many enjoyed the return of German pride, and many more were too busy to care.
I was one of those who just thought the Nazis were a bunch of fools. So, the majority just sat back and let it all happen. Then, before we knew it, they owned us, and we had lost control, and the end of the world had come.
My family lost everything. I ended up in a concentration camp and the Allies destroyed my factories.'

We are told again and again by 'experts' and 'talking heads' that Islam is the religion of peace and that the vast majority of Muslims just want to live in peace.
Although this unqualified assertion may be true, it is entirely irrelevant. It is meaningless fluff, meant to make us feel better, and meant to somehow diminish the spectre of fanatics rampaging across the globe in the name of Islam.

The fact is that the fanatics rule Islam at this moment in history.
It is the fanatics who march.
It is the fanatics who wage any one of 50 shooting wars worldwide.
It is the fanatics who systematically slaughter Christian or tribal groups throughout Africa and are gradually taking over the entire continent in an Islamic wave.
It is the fanatics who bomb, behead, murder, or honour-kill. It is the fanatics who take over mosque after mosque.
It is the fanatics who zealously spread the stoning and hanging of rape victims and homosexuals.
It is the fanatics who teach their young to kill and to become suicide bombers.

The hard, quantifiable fact is that the peaceful majority, the 'silent majority,' is cowed and extraneous.
Communist Russia was comprised of Russians who just wanted to live in peace, yet the Russian Communists were responsible for the murder of about 20 million people. The peaceful majority were irrelevant.

China's huge population was peaceful as well, but Chinese Communists managed to kill a staggering 70 million people..

The average Japanese individual prior to World War II was not a warmongering sadist. Yet, Japan murdered and slaughtered its way across South East Asia in an orgy of killing that included the systematic murder of 12 million Chinese civilians; most killed by sword, shovel, and bayonet.

And who can forget Rwanda, which collapsed into butchery. Could it not be said that the majority of Rwandans were 'peace loving'?

History lessons are often incredibly simple and blunt, yet for all our powers of reason, we often miss the most basic and uncomplicated of points:
Peace-loving Muslims have been made irrelevant by their silence.
Peace-loving Muslims will become our enemy if they don't speak up, because like my friend from Germany, they will awaken one day and find that the fanatics own them, and the end of their world will have begun.

Peace-loving Germans, Japanese, Chinese, Russians, Rwandans, Serbs, Afghans, Iraqis, Palestinians, Somalis, Nigerians, Algerians, and many others have died because the peaceful majority did not speak up until it was too late.

Now Islamic prayers have been introduced into Toronto and other public schools in Ontario, and, yes, in Ottawa too while the Lord's Prayer was removed (due to being so offensive?) The Islamic way may be peaceful for the time being in our country until the fanatics move in.

In Australia, and indeed in many countries around the world, many of the most commonly consumed food items have the halal emblem on them.
Just look at the back of some of the most popular chocolate bars, and at other food items in your local supermarket.
Food on aircraft have the halal emblem, just to appease the privileged minority who are now rapidly expanding within the nations shores.

In the U.K, the Muslim communities refuse to integrate and there are now dozens of no-go zones within major cities across the country that the police force dare not intrude upon.
Sharia law prevails there, because the Muslim community in those areas refuse to acknowledge British law.

As for us who watch it all unfold, we must pay attention to the only group that counts - the fanatics who threaten our way of life.

Lastly, anyone who doubts that the issue is serious and just deletes this email without sending it on, is contributing to the passiveness that allows the problems to expand.
So, extend yourself a bit and send this on and on and on! Let us hope that thousands, world-wide, read this and think about it, and they also continue to send it on - before it's too late.

And we are silent......
Check the blinkers for cracks Ken:E

It seems the left are he'll bent on building a guilt ridden nation. Could only stomach a few paragraphs of a Charlie Pickering article on how disgusting we are, and how he cried when Julia Gillard apologised to the "stolen generation".

Freedom of speech is a right we are fortunate to have here, and there is definitely a responsibility that comes with it. Australian humour used to be a "put down" that would be followed with a quick retort. Kids from other backgrounds caught on quick and gave as good as they got.

What concerns me is that excessive PC correctness will suppress the "passive" racism and it will simmer until it reaches boiling point. Look at Britain right now. Years of PC correctness could, sadly, boil over to outright violence. Is that the outcome we want here?

Andu 2nd Jun 2013 10:17

The ever increasing (and to most of us, increasingly outrageous) demands made upon their host countries by Muslim immigrants and first generation Muslim citizens could be likened to a new kid arriving at a school. He arrives, very much the outsider and totally unsure of the rules, both the official ones and the probably more important unofficial rules in the playground.

Not knowing what the reaction will be, he puts his feet up on a table. No one reacts, so he throws the leftovers from his lunch on the floor. No one reacts. So he spits on the floor. No one reacts. Next he shoves a smaller child aside. No one reacts - so he steals that kid's lunch money. No one reacts. Indeed, both teachers and his fellow students seem to have been briefed not to react to anything he does.

Am I the only one who thinks that if this kid had been firmly told that he was out of order and there were rules that he must follow the moment he put his feet up on that table, his behaviour afterwards would have been very, very different? I believe the same once applied to our immigrants, both invited and uninvited, who hail from Muslim countries. But now it's far too late - unless there's a "head teacher" out there who's willing to take the obviously far bigger steps it will now take to put that kid back on the straight and narrow.

I don't think there's any such "head teacher" out there, on either side of politics. But at least the current Opposition are a damn sight closer to it than the current sorry excuse for a government even pretends to be.

Agree. We all learned! :ouch:

That said, there's nothing good or gracious about a thirteen year old girl yelling personal insults at a footy player. His face showed that he was genuinely upset and while he's arguably been a bit over-sensitive, we still shouldn't see this sort of public rudeness as acceptable. When you watch old footage of sporting events (say from the sixties or earlier) you can see that crowds are far better behaved than they are now.

I know a number of families who've stopped going to the NRL because their kids hear way too many bad words and see too much drunken, loutish behaviour.

Buster Hyman 2nd Jun 2013 22:43

Definitely! Totally agree. It's a curious case though. I'm still wondering why the 'adult' with her didn't tag along. If it was her Mother, then she's the one that should have been grilled for 2 hours, not the 13 year old.

Anyway, one lesson from this is never take any grapes to the footy, lest someone misconstrue what you're saying... :p
