Sorry if you were hoping for something else but this is about the feathered variety.
A week ago i had a garden full of tits and finches etc., but they have all gone.
Anyone else lost all of their birds??

I expect this will be almost instantaneous thread creep!!

757manipulator 7th Nov 2005 12:30

do you own a cat by any chance?

1DC 7th Nov 2005 12:33

No cat or dog and don't see trespassing cats very often...

They've migrated southwest and are busy nibbling my wild nuts!:D :p

Blue Tits, Great Tits and Chaffinches nibbling away on my nuts as we speak. Luckily my flat is first floor in a big park/orchard so the local moggies can't get the birds. The sparrow hawks keep trying though.

Probably a neighbour has started to put food out so they moved venue?

G-CPTN 7th Nov 2005 15:38

Most likely is that a Sparrowhawk or some other bird of prey has moved-in to the area. NOT that it has consumed all the resident birds, but they keep a low profile (or move elsewhere) in self-defence. Sadly, bird feeders can attract the attention of raptors, as it's like food on a stick . . .

Tricky Woo 7th Nov 2005 16:05

A chaffinch? A chaffinch! Wot kind of poncy southern bird is a chaffinch exactly? And wot exactly is a bluetit? The sparrers from where I was dragged up would beat the sh1t out of any tit or other colourful bird, for being frivolous and degenerate. And nicking the milk.

Real birds are drab, and descend on toast chucked in the yard mob-handed, and generally squabble, bicker and beat the sh1t out of each other. Now yer chaffinches and tits're hardly in that vein, are they? Softy southern birds, they are.

Probably some dead 'ard northern sparrers moved in. Look for peregrine falcons cringing in fear, and cats refusing to go out for a wee-wee. And an unexplained surge in the deaths of old people, bless 'em.

Hope that helps.

We have remarkably localised sparrers. Few or none in our garden, yet hundreds infest properties 300 metres away. I suspect they don't see our woodpeckers though . . .

There was a pair of great tits in the garden just now when I was raking the leaves!! :O :O

Jerricho 7th Nov 2005 16:26

Did you have a mate over tart :p :p

Darth Nigel 7th Nov 2005 16:37

Ahh, the plaintive mating call of the gray-bearded tit-licker is heard once more from the tower in Mossiepeg!

acbus1 7th Nov 2005 17:21

Lets see......in the vein of a car trye and exhaust outfit.....

There's no git thicker than a thick tit licker. :}

This could end up merged with the tongue twister thread (in more ways than one).

Ozzy 7th Nov 2005 17:27

Spotted the problem we have got magpies, they haven't been around for a couple of years but we have a couple now. Other birds are still around but being careful...Nuts are still going down....

acbus1 9th Nov 2005 13:49

Nuts going down?

I know the feeling.

Getting old is a terrible thing. :(

G-CPTN 9th Nov 2005 13:52
