Strange objects...
I'm looking for help from the collective knowledge and inventiveness here. I have found a walking stick, or part of one, amongst my father's belongings and cannot figure out why it contains a small vial. The walking stick is in parts that screw together. The bottom part is missing, but when you remove the duck's head at the top, a small vial with a rubber stopper is neatly fitted within the top part with a spring below it to cushion it. The label on the vial is headed 'Becton Dickinson' and 'sterile vacutainer' with a number below.
So what is it? Answers below please. By the way, if it is worth anything, offers will be accepted.

That's a very old vacutainer. The red top indicates that it has no additive and is used for serum. I assume the '86 is the expiry date, and it is certainly a very old design.
Why someone apparently has posted it into a walking stick, I have no idea! It's not much use for taking a sample without a needle and needle holder.

Thanks everyone! This also neatly ties in with my family's fondness for a tipple. It makes more sense than them being vampires...
Anyhow... when I started the thread I was wondering if anyone else has any strange objects lying about, so post away.
