Gavin Williamson to be knighted

I appreciate in the cases of some individuals the bar to be knighted was somewhat lowered, but to have been sacked twice from a role in government and headed up the 2020 exams controversy, one wonders if the bar is now subterranean?

All knighthoods from now on have been devalued to the point where they are almost worthless. There was always an element of "reward for favours" in a lot of them, but this is a new low.

He must know things, because those things certainly weren't appertaining to the important positions he held in government.

He probably has some photographs or emails which must never be made public. That's how he probably got a cabinet post in the first place.

Initially, this didn't surprise me - I'm a bit 'Mutt and Jeff', and thought I heard that he'd been 'nutted' ... such a let-down !

Just when you think sleaze, corruption and a disgraced government couldn't sink any lower in the cesspit of self serving.......

Sorry, shouldn't judge our elected representatives.

Never mind this; whataboutthat.

When Mugabe was knighted it made political sense. In view of the misplaced hope and expectation, his knighthood was revoked.

Gavin Williamson is being knighted for being a slimey party loyalist, willing to sell his soul for political gain. Services to the country, or any country? Please. LOL?

LOL indeed - there is a very long historic list of 'Knighthoods' given to dodgy people - casting GV as the worst/lowest ever is at best inaccurate
'Ebagum' was just an example of previous low points - I do not actually give a to55 either way

Like killing more Saracens or Riding with the King against Scotland or dare I say it ... France (surely that would get you at least an Earldom or something?)

I never really understood why we think that just because someone was born into a family that had an ancestor who was at Agincourt they're someone special - well we're taught that from birth I suppose

We're told to in essence, this is the story and don't use critical thinking. Makes life simple, but there's always that nagging feeling that there might be more. Judge each of the barstewards on their merits and leave the ancestors in the past.

The more I think about Williamson getting knighted, the more it irritates me. All the good capable people who would deserve, but never receive this honour and this clown gets the nod........Even odious 'donors' who receive knighthoods you can grudgingly understand because they oil the wheels of UK politics, but this clown ?? Can anyone recall something good that he's done for the citizens of this country ?

This is a topic that make me remember Gilbert and Sullivan's 'Gondoliers' and the Duke and Duchess of Plaza Toro's way of increasing their income....

A friend of mine is a noted physician who is responsible for Her Maj when north of the border. He told me in fairness with a jocular tone that when his tenure was over he would be knighted. Also in fairness a great doctor so no quibble from me. My reply was ‘ I have only three words’, ‘what’s that?’. ‘Sir Jimmy Saville’. He laughed.

Just beggars belief. Oligarch and old school friend peerages, pension robber billionaires retaining knighthoods and so on. The "system" is broken.

Can I please have some millions from Randy Andy - I have never met him, and a peerage from Boris - I have never met him.

I think the ennoblement of Sir Gavin is to be applauded. It gives hope to incompetents everywhere.

Surely Priti Patel is long overdue for at least a Damehood for outstanding underachievement at the Home Office.
Perhaps there's a bit of a queue, and it would be rather bad form if too many failed ministers turned up together at the Palace to collect their "Boris'll Fix It" badges, or is it that she just hasn't been fired enough times yet?
Let's hope Private Eye is on the case!
