Last nights episode showing 2 issues.
1. A massive tear in the grommet around the Gun Barrel, which caused flooding below in heavy weather.
2. A complete failure of the Sonar system at a critical point when it was tracking a Russian Sub.
So My questions.
1 As the gun is electronically controlled why did they not just turn the gun mounting away from the incoming heavy seas? I Understand maybe that the control system might have been damaged by incoming water!
2 Are critical systems like the sonar master control system not duplicated. So that they have a LIVE/STANDBY type installation. (Like Auto land with 3 separate computer systems ) Seems to me that all the lessons learned in the Falklands have now been forgotten. Additionally I believe we will see next week that the Sonar is again completely disabled when the Russian Sub (deliberately ) cut the Trailing Line Transmitter / Receiver
Any RN friends like to comment or do we already know the answer ......money / Nobody thought about in the Specification?

I might be wrong, but I got the impression that the damaged seal was only discovered when they went up on deck after the event and found the damage. That being the case, you'd hope that a realignment of the gun (can it actually be turned fully aft - towards the bridge - or is there an interlock) would be added to bad weather procedures. Even so, that being the only weather protection against flooding below decks seems a bit remiss, was the seal damage and consequences identified in a risk analysis ?

We never had that problem with the good old gun Leanders. What is boiling my p*"s is the continuity, especially the re-fuelling scenes.

When I was on one of HM's war canoes, it was possible to rotate the turret such that it faced aft once certain interlocks were removed. It happened once while I was on watch but the lads doing it forgot to tell the bridge or if they did the message never got through. Suddenly the turret rotated aft such that we were looking at a couple of tampions. The captain happened to be on the bridge on the time and asked one of the lookouts to pass his compliments to the WEO and would he care to join him on the bridge. When the WEO duly appeared the skipper just pointed at the barrels menacing the bridge windows and asked "Have I done something to offend you WEO?" The ship in question was the big one in the middle.

When I saw that torn grommet I wondered why they couldn't have a metal plate mounted to the barrel such that it would shield the grommet from the worst of the weather. Wouldn't have to be so big that it restricted movement of the barrel, just something to take the sting out of the incoming waves. Just my two groats worth
