Perhaps you are trolling, but what do you expect anyone to do about a volcanic eruption?

El Grifo, if you still want to do a fly by I can understand, but it would be like a moth drawn to a flame.

Many people were drawn to the smoking remnants after 9/11, and I do not think it was taken as a token of disrespect, just a recognition of the devastation.

It would help if as a photographer you could share all that you see, as most most people can never go back, and won’t have a chance to see the last moments of their neighborhoods.

As one of a number of 'moving' (newly-opening) vents and fissures along The Old Ridge (La Cumbre Vieja), does the present volcanic eruption/cone really qualify for independent volcano status? If so, will it be given a specific designation within the Cumbre Vieja National Park, I wonder? How large a cone must it leave to become a recognized 'volcano' in its own right?
(Just thinking about the forests around Mt Fuji covering numerous nameless cones from previous eruptions.)

PS Subsequently found some of the answers here: https://volcano.si.edu/volcano.cfm?vn=383010
La Palma is two volcanos, the southern one (La Cumbre Vieja) being a rift volcano with many historical vents.

Looking at that video, the houses look so tiny against the flowing tide. Humans and our works are just insignificant.

Fair point jolihokistixs !
as you say it could end up as a big nameless cinder cone on the side of the ridge !
In our Volcanic Fields of Timanfya, the volcanos are more defined and most have names.
One I took earlier !

I am still planning to go visibility, just need to fit it in with other commitments !

Ha !!
Lucky shot to be fair !
Was on the way back from an aerial shoot further down the Island and we got vectored over the normally restricted area of the Nationa Park due to some aircraft having problems on the approach.
Needless to say we took full opportunity and did a couple of sneaky 360's

Interesting image showing the fragility of Agriculture on the Island of La Palma ! The lava has flowed downhill to the sea, destroying around 10% of this unique and fertile green area, destroying farms, banana plantations and homes ! Where to re-house these people and how to replace their livelihood, is one of the biggest problems the Island must face ! An image such as this, certainly brings things into perspective. El Grifo

It is actually winemaker !
I have sold it several times over and it is one of the only, out of several hundred thousand images or more of mine, that actually hangs on my wall.
The problem is that if I supply a full resolution digital image, I loose control of it.
What sort of print medium and size were you thinking of ?

I understand what you're saying about control. My brother is a photographer and has a very large format high resolution inkjet printer that produces amazing prints, so was thinking of having him print it for me. Was thinking 18 X 24 inch (or appropriate ratio) print.

Since the coming of digital photography, the issue of copyright control has soared to new levels for artists of all types. Beforehand it was a case of physically sending a print to the customer, but now.....I had a friend who had an exhibition of their work at a gallery for a month and at some point during that time some enterprising miscreant took high resolution images and once back in their country started selling these images as if they were their own! it was only discovered after a year by chance.

A stunning image it has to be said, all those shapes and shades in the one image Mr Grifo. In that TV screenshot above, just to the left really illustrates how vulnerable some of those farmers are to any eruptions and/or lava flows. The downside of farming those super fertile soils....

Thanks Springheel !
I have been plying my trade for 43 years now !
Previously as a Commercial Photographer, but since moving to the Canary Islands in '93, I accidentaly fell into Travel Photography, which has taken Sra.Grifo and myself around the world !
Slowed up now albeit.
Digital made a huge difference when supplying images to clients.
I was the first to convert, which gave me a full years advantage over the competition.
The first camera which was fully up to the job was the mighty Canon 1DS, for which I paid a whopping 8000 !
Senora Grifo thought I was mad :-)

Winemaker, allow me to pm you regarding the image of Timanfaya.

Update from today :-
"According to the latest data, more than 420 hectares of La Palma have been covered by the lava that expels the Cumbre Vieja volcano, and the delta that has entered the sea currently occupies an area of more than 36 hectares and has advanced 540 meters from the coast"

El Grifo, thanks for bringing Timanfya to our attention. Spectacular!

For those that haven't looked yet, I recommend viewing those volcano fields with Google satellite view.
The neat lines of craters reminded me a little of the Vulcan marks at Stanley! (also viewable with Google sat view).
