Why do some posts disappear?

I posted a reply to someone about buses from Bournemouth airport this morning and now my post and the original question has disappeared.
I have had other posts disappear but I thought it must be me not clicking the submit button, but now I think they are being deleted.
Is this a thing for others?

If a moderator thinks your post should disappear, it will.
There is no discussion or appeal. Just accept it.

If the thread starter decides to delete their question, then all subsequent replies are also deleted.

Or if a thread degenerates into a discussion about a time in Oz aviation that was in the same year the massacre in Tiananmen Square took place and the Berlin Wall came down.

Or if comments on a joke drift off into astro-physics.

And the thread is appropriately consigned to the ' Toolshed' by the mods

What bugs me is when my carefully cut-down and edited quote boxes, in reply to somebody; are deleted from my posts, leaving just their name and making me seem blunt or rude, or obscuring what it is I am replying about.

I agree that lazily quoting someone's entire post is too much, but I don't do that. Surely PPRuNe is not so short of storage that a few extra lines to improve flow and understanding are too much?

This has been known to happen.

Yes, I have no idea what that's all about. It seems to be particularly prevalent in fast-moving threads on R&N, where it often results in a very disjointed, and sometimes incomprehensible, thread.

And of course this post will make no sense when your quote is deleted.

You are aware of course, that there is a chance, due to quantum mechanics, that posts will disappear on their own and reappear elsewhere in a new form or perhaps in an alternative universe.

Would it have to be disentangled first or does it just become unfunny in the new location?

I predict that the half-life of this thread is short and shrinking and that its disappearance will be due to a rather mundane process rather than the vagaries of quantum mechanics.

Maybe someone drunk the bleach that Trump was advocating?

I understan the need to move some threads TO JB, but..............If a thread is too awful for JB, where does it get moved to? Over to the ATS threads?

I wonder if a Moderator could answer this question please?
Or will I be deleted?

‘twas not I that deleted your bus timetable post but looking at it, there was no need for it in an Aviation forum. Basically, off topic.

We (the Mods) are becoming increasingly constrained in our efforts due to the lack of spanners in our toolbox since the ownership by Internet Brands. Subtle tools which Danny developed don’t meet the One Size Fits All approach of IB Techs and are not available, which generally leaves us a slash and burn option only. Whinges from the floor about notifications have had and always will have little effect: there are a tenth the number of Mods now than there were in Danny’s reign and we simply a) don’t have the time or b) can’t be @rsed to complete the Edit box and tick the notify user option when moderating; fact of life and it won’t be changing anytime soon.

Some posts in this thread need sorting, but my time is now taken with this reply. For instance Ancient Observer has his inevitable OT slash at Trump: TWT has a smart comment because a thread has been sidelined for attention (to “The Toolbox”) and will be back online soon, Lookleft summed that one up nicely!

Some of you are well known for your nuances, others not so much, but even our Admin tools are now severely restricted which limits our searching of past posts and past moderations.

That’s as much of an explanation as you’ll get: back to the day jobs 🙊

Thank you for the explanation Senior Pilot.
However, I guess I am being naughty, though I don't know why.
Another of my posts has been deleted on the Bournemouth airport thread.
I posted a reply to a post that said the BOH to JFK cargo flights were increasing from 3 to 4 a week. My reply was that the flights appear to be almost every day at the moment as I see them go past my garden, hoping to get a response as to the current frequency.
I don't see that this is "Off Topic", but the post has gone.

dixi188 as were the four posts preceding yours: the Forum moderator or a roving moderator drive the moderating there. Maybe influenced by your previous history?

I think the thread topic has been asked and answered; like all of us driving the bus we get used to certain routes and passengers! Time for this to be put into the garage 🤔😇
