US Airlines/Southwest pilot exposes himself to copilot and watches porn

I haven’t seen it mentioned anywhere.

Michael Haak, 60, exposed himself to the female first officer in the cockpit and watched pornography on a laptop, prosecutors said.

As the Southwest Airlines flight continued, Haak engaged in further "inappropriate conduct" in the cockpit.

A judge in Maryland sentenced him to one year's probation and ordered him to pay a $5,000 (£3,500) fine.

The incident happened during a flight from Philadelphia International Airport to Orlando International Airport on 10 August 2020, the court heard.

When the flight reached cruising altitude, Haak got out of the pilot's seat, "intentionally disrobed" and watched pornographic media on a laptop.

Haak further engaged in inappropriate conduct in the cockpit, as the first officer continued to perform her duties," federal prosecutors said in a statement.

Haak had never met the first officer prior to the flight, they added.

The fact that question was even asked shows weíve got a long way to go on educating people on what is appropriate behaviour in a flight deck.

The guy committed a sex crime. Of course he ainít coming back. Heís lucky to not be in prison.

As I reach the end of this lifetime, I have come to a surprisingly small number of conclusions about the human species. However, the way in which sex takes over otherwise rational minds is one I'm fairly sure about. Paupers, presidents and princes, they've all made fools of themselves, or worse.

President Johnson. Can it be true? If so, he's got the right name. And then there's Bill, and just what is that little door in the big desk for? It's got me foxed, but sex really is a mind-modifier.

Either having a breakdown or making a move to get disability pay to see him out till pension kicks in. There must be easier ways.

Come off your high horse. That this story has received this much attention shows itís not anywhere remotely close to the norm and not something you and the woke crowd need to make your next campaign.

It 's not that it's close to the norm - its that it happens AT ALL that is wrong Westie....................

It's not a "woke" reaction - its the same reaction as you'd get in any society. I'd hate to think what the pastor in my boyhood church would have said but I'm sure it would involve brimstone ........

Thatís not what I said.

The guy committed a sex crime, a lewd, indecent or obscene act being the technical term in law and couldíve received a prison sentence. There was a suggestion he could have been re-employed after committing such an act by another poster.

The mere thought that such a pervert could be considered for re-employment and be allowed to command aircraft is bad enough. Who in their right mind could possibly think that a company would employ a convicted sex offender as an airline captain?

If so it went badly wrong. The BBC article says he retired about two weeks later before SWA knew about the incident but SWA is now not paying him any benefits AT ALL.

His behavior is a symptom of Bipolar Disorder. Maybe a medication problem, or something not reported.

Then we should ground all aircraft. Thatíll stop it from happening in flight. Said pilot then would have then done it at another venue. Donít go looking for a systemic problem when it was one pilot who realistically will pay a high price for what potentially is a mental health issue.
