Track and Trace

Just endured yet another call from track and trace. I am in quarntine
after returning to the UK. Obviously the operation is hosted far away,
perhaps in India. With all respect to the people involved the combination
of a heavy accent and the lowest possible quality telephone connection
makes the process almost useless. Besides my phone works worldwide
how do they know where I am. I had to do the day 2 test, happened to occur
on a Saturday, posted in priority mailbox which has collection only on
Monday ! Yesterday (Monday) they tried to chase my results, good luck with that.
All seems badly implemented to me.

It's the NHS. Their ability for organisation is generally of the Fred Karno variety.

I realise that the logistics are immense, but the whole Track and Trace implimentation has been rubbis. When you look at the money that has been given out for the various parts, it should be top-notch, world-class. Yet it isn't, at all and the latest variant that is causing concern has been introduced almost entirely due to the ignorance of certain citizens of the UK and the unfit for purpose T&T system.

Mr Ardvaark, did you get done what you wanted in Espagne ? I hope so for your sake with all the rigmarole you've been put through!

Can someone who knows, confirm that it is the NHS which is the operating agency for this scheme, rather than a sub-contracted agency, such as G4S or similar examples of 'quality' ?

Serco are the employer, working on behalf of the NHS/PHE.

It is a project paid for by the UK Health Security Agency (previously Dept of Health) and fulfilled entirely by contractors.

...and there was I thinking that the NHS had finally caught up with technology however, after arriving in the UK from France four days ago, I have been receiving calls from the 0300 number which rings three times and disappears.

i am often unable to reach the mobile in time, and when I do, the caller is no longer on the line.

Well I guess someone will find us before we disappear back to France in another 12 days?

More bl00dy outsourcing, at least it isn't Group 4 or 'Soddin'-exho. All of them have previous in offering sub standard service, paid for by the tax payer.

Thank you Kendrick and OvertHawk - the quality of service becomes instantly explicable !
Imagegear - the NHS have been quite busy delivering a universally acclaimed vaccine roll-out which even the Buffoon acknowledges. Their less-than-sterling record with 'technology' might be due to the lack of the sum emblazoned on a travelling lies vehicle.

I can't help having the suspicion that the logistical success of the vaccine programme in the field, which has by any stretch of the imagination been a great success, has as much to do with the army of volunteers whether they be marshals, receptionists or indeed vaccinators many of whom who have no background in the NHS but instead have come from former private industry and commerce, or who are indeed students who don't have the "NHS" MO running through their veins.

Didn't the USA spend 2.5 Billion sending that Rover to Mars. So far 32 Billion has been spent on T & T. Hope someone at some time looks into where that money went.

Springheeled,
got all my stuff done in Spain. Nice food & drink & weather.
No sympathy for Brits whinging about how hard it all is.
Even some friends who retired (from senior positions)to Spain
20 years ago have only late in the day started the process.

I remember when Serco started, should have got my wife to buy shares.
(Was illegal for me !)

Just to add, when I cancelled my Vaccine appointment, due to quarantine,
I have to ask for a new one after quarantine as June appointments
not yet bookable !

Test provider has just a minute or two ago emailed to say test received

Did you just say.. 32 billion has been spent on T and T? In the UK? Where did that money go?

You could send people back to the moon with that money.

Please explain how the NHS, in the height of a pandemic, was supposed to set up and run the T&T service with 25,000 staff, call centres, IT, managment etc...?
They might have already had quite a lot on their plate at the time...

Of which 85% is for the testing service, 15% for Track and Trace.

The NHS didnít need to be involved (and largely werenít apart from providing their name as fire cover) however whichever knuckle dragging centraliser in Downing Street decided to try and avoid the local public health people from the start (who already had experience in track and trace with other diseases) has a lot to answer for.

On the other hand, the CV19 vaccination records, plus QR code, seem to have been transferred to the NHS app with splendid efficiency. Anecdotal evidence also seems to show that the vaccination letters are being sent out with minimal delay, to those that request them.
It seems only right that praise should be given when deserved.

Iíve just completed a, less than 10 day, trip in/out of the UK. Not exempt from the Day 2 & 8 PCR tests. Daily call (read using a script) from Track & Trace, each one almost unintelligible due an echo on the line (recording?) and English not being the first language of the T & T operator. Each caller assumed that I was using the home test kit method, I wasnít..I went on Day 2 & 8 to a test facility nearby that administered the tests for me. Day 9, I left the UK within the 10 day quarantine period. At the airport on Day 9, I was called and asked by T & T what my Day 8 test result was. I answered, Iíve no idea because the result hasnít come through yet. The perplexed T & T operator just hung up, havenít heard anything more since.
