April Fool jokes have become so widespread to have just become an irritation.

So many things have now become so widespread as to become meaningless. A minute's silence was almost exclusively held on Rembrance Day, now we have a minute's silence for almost any event someone deems worthy and is more about virtue signalling than anything else. Then there are standing ovations in the theatre or concert hall, they used to be for an exceptional performance now they happen at the end of nearly every performance.

Bah, humbug!

Yea, just give me one really good April Fools joke that believably smells right but turns out later to be fake
that fits right into the rest of my groundhog day of confusion

The Guardian April fools trick made it onto YouTube as well, the part about using atomic bombs to dig out the canal may have been a give away.
Negotiations are in progress to use Iran's bombs and missiles to dig the canal. Swords to ploughshares

Ah, social media....always useful for spreading false allegations and for allowing the originator(s) the opportunity to manifest their insecurities ....and intrinsic bigotry .....

Re bombs and water features, I think I may have mentioned before that my landscape gardener architect colleagues were asked to design a garden pond for the back garden at 10 Downing Street. Drawings had just been completed when a hole appeared in the the lawn in almost exactly the right place, courtesy of an IRA mortar attack. The pond was subsequently cancelled for some reason...

This sort of nonsense counts as fake news, which spreads widely and rapidly due to the internet. Fooling a few people like this back in the 1990s may have been funny but this nonsense needs to stop.

I donít think it was an April fools trick. It is a project that does have merit. It has been looked at for quite some time, with many regional and international players getting involved. Iím just surprised it hasnít got the green light years ago.

The nuclear bomb idea was a US study done in the 60ís. Iím pretty sure they had a study for nuking everything back then.

Not a joke apparently:

Marwa Elselehdar: 'I was blamed for blocking the Suez Canal'
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-56615521

Last month, Marwa Elselehdar noticed something strange. News had broken about a huge container ship, the Ever Given, that had become wedged across the Suez Canal, bringing one of world's major shipping routes to a halt.

But as she checked her phone, online rumours were saying she was to blame.

"I was shocked," says Marwa, Egypt's first female ship's captain.

At the time of the Suez blockage, Ms Elselehdar was working as a first mate, in command of the Aida IV, hundreds of miles away in Alexandria.

Rumours about Marwa Elselehdar's role on the Ever Given were largely spurred by screenshots of a fake news headline - supposedly published by Arab News - which said she was involved in the Suez incident.

The doctored image appears to be from a genuine Arab News story, released on 22 March, which profiles Marwa's success as Egypt's first female ship captain. The picture has been shared dozens of times on Twitter and Facebook.

Several Twitter accounts under her name have also spread false claims that she was in involved with the Ever Given.

Marwa Elselehdar, 29, told the BBC she has no idea who first spread the story or why they did it.

"I felt that I might be targeted maybe because I'm a successful female in this field or because I'm Egyptian, but I'm not sure," she said.

It's not the first time she's faced challenges in an industry historically dominated by men. At present, women only account for 2% of the world's seafarers, according to the International Maritime Organisation.
P.S., I see it was already posted ny Krystals n Chips...

The first female Captain I encountered on a tanker was on a Finnish vessel named "Fanny". No, you couldn't make it up.

That would have been Operation Plowshare.

Using nukes to build a harbour in Alaska. What could go wrong!

You're sure you're not making it up? The only Finnish fanny I could find (yeah, yeah, I know, been there, done that.) was as a small government owned thing. That one?

I sailed with a female captain, 2019 I think. The female engineer
had by far more interesting superstructure.

The Ever Given nosed into the canal bank. A female captain would have backed it in.

Nope, Fanny was a VLCC, and sister ship to the Finny (which makes for safer googling )

That is funny how? All you do is show your misogynistic personality, and crass attitude toward women.

There are only two things that female humans cannot currently do:

One is that they cannot get pregnant without the assistance in some way from a man, either naturally or artificially, and the other is that they cannot naturally produce the sperm to get another female pregnant. Most of these may be overcome with science in the future....

Remember also Abe Lincoln's comment;"

"Mr. President, where would men be without women?"

Abe's response " Mighty scarce, sir, mighty scarce"

Looking at the videos of the canal, I'm VERY impressed with the engineering. It must have been a very complex project and extremely expensive to build.

However I bet that price is nothing compared to how much it cost to fill it with water! I mean my swimming pool is only 16,000 gallons and that costs about $100
