Wolf lived downtown at Spreeufer in Nicolaiviertel. Owning some "Datsche" at Lanke/Prenden next to the then top secret politburo wartime bunker.

Dear Less Hair,
The Lanke Prenden address was 4 minutes from Wandlitz ( SED Ghetto)
where Honecker and the top brass were living. They moved there from
the area of Pankow for security reasons. Wolf would have been within
earshot of "His Master's Voice" at Lanke / Prenden, and because space
for further dwellings within the Wandlitz compound was limited, Lanke
would have been ideal. It was the boyfriend of one of the cleaners at
Wandlitz who made an attempt on Honecker's life, when overtaking
the Honecker convoy, and firing at Honecker's Citroen.
Wolf met Daniel Ortaga at Obersee on occasions. and Ortaga also had
accommodation at Zeuthen. Not sure if he had the Spreeufer address
after he had to move out of the Obersee apartment or during, as a first
residence. The appartment in Obersee was not very impressive,
Wolf, "The Man without a Face" asked for asylum in Russia in 1990,
and Austria in 1991. eventually being arrested in Bavaria in 1991.
He was offered money, plastic surgery, and a house in the USA
if he agreed to work for the CIA. He had met Blake and Philby.

The Waldsiedlung is far away compared to what even more secret place I had mentioned.
Interesting fact that Wolf having been soviet officer in WW2 and being communist VIP after the wall came down preferred to first flee to Russia and then return to Germany again.

Dear Less Hair,
Thanks for the info. I had not realised that "Object 17/5001" known as the SED
Bunker was so near the Waldsiedlung (Wandlitz) residence of Honecker, He
would not have far to travel in the event of a nuclear attack on the GDR, It was built
in 1978, and Honecker made only one visit to view the bunker. It would have
been manned by 400 staff.
West Germany had already built a nuclear bunker built between 1960 and 1972
in the Ahrweiler, 16 miles south of Bonn. and not far from the Soviet Embassy
located in the former Hotel Groyen at Rolandseck. The Stasi had already placed
their agents in the building of the FRG's nuclear bolt hole. There was also part
of the A61 autobahn nearby which could be transformed into a runway for use
by military aircraft.
Bunkers appeared to be "In Vogue" during the Cold War. The Dutch had one
situated in the marlstone caves at Valkenburg not far from Maastricht. Maggie
Thatcher would have taken her "Boys" to the Casemates below Dover castle.
My Grandmother living a few metres from the former Fred Engels mill at
Seedley, Salford, had a bunker, not to protect her from a communist attack,
but to store coal, and give protection from the Northern English cold winters.

The main government bunker in Budapest is located 50 metres underground near to the Parliament in Pest, with a metro line connection to the mainline station at Nyugati. The systems are still regularly maintained.
The Hospital in the rock, under Castle hill in Buda, was also equipped to serve as a bunker, this is now open to the public.

Blake is buried in Moscow's Troyekurovskoye cemetery.
The kremlin website reported a message with regard to
Putin's condolences on the passing of George Blake.
"Colonel Blake was an outstanding professional of special
courage and life endurance. Throughout the years of his
hard and strenuous efforts he made invaluable contribution
to ensuring strategic parity of peace on the planet".
---------------------------------------------------------------
I find it a tragedy of monumental proportion, that the many
possible victims of Blake's "Contributions" may have denied
them the same "Life endurance" that this traitor enjoyed.

The bunker at Prenden, near Wolf's Stasi supplied weekend home, would have been for the DDR "Nationaler Verteidigungsrat", practically meaning the very core staff of the SED-Politbüro for military affairs. This ranked higher than the DDR state institutions so to call it SED bunker is appropriate. Politbüro members would be dressed as generals there some had even rank insignia at hand to dress up as "Marschall der DDR" with fancy red ruby stars on the shoulderboards.

Many institutions in the east had their own wartime bunkers. In his old active duty days during wartime Wolf might have moved to Stasi's separate Hauptverwaltung Aufklärung (HVA) bunker at Gosen, southeast of Berlin.

Can we stop talking about this bar steward now. And can we stop pretending that we've had a brushing against the Services in the line of our work as pilots.
You know it' b**locks. We all know it' b**locks.
He betrayed countless british men and women to the enemy at the time - resulting in many deaths/ disappearance and slaughter.
An enemy that has proved itself time and time again, utterly ruthless in its pursuit of belligerent seizure of power - at any cost.

He was a total and utter C U Next Tuesday.
He betrayed his country, his collegues and co-workers and recklessly put un-told numbers of agents in to the cauldron of gun-fire at a level with which they were ill-equipped to deal with. That's the price you always end up paying when you deal with the ruskiies. Utter ruthlessness.

If you sympathise with his philosophy then off you go to the East.

But don't post this nonsense here.

Less Hair,
I see that the Seddensee (Gosen) was linked to the Zeuthensee via the
river Dahme, With many of the Big-wigs having second homes on the
Zeuthensee, I would be possible to reach the Gosen bunker by boat ?

Don't think so. Car would be the likely way to go.
