Covid19 Vaccine guinea pig

About 5 or 6 weeks ago I volunteered my services for Covid19 vaccine trials. I applied on line and only gave simple info and contact details. Straight away I got the confirmation email and then.......... Nothing.

This week I was sent a general circulation newsletter from the vaccine development people but nothing specific regarding if/when I might be asked more questions pertinent to my suitability. I assumed there would be a much more detailed load of stuff required before my suitability for testing could be determined.

Have any of you other good folk volunteered?

Perhaps they don't want 62 year old white males in generally good health. Just curious.

It's not a post I've applied for but I think you are first class for doing so...

Yes, I volunteered about the same time, had an emailed newsletter, but so far nothing else. The newsletter suggested they would need older volunteers, and at 67 I thought I might qualify. I get the feeling that they've been inundated with volunteers, perhaps.

I suspect they may also favour volunteers nearer to their labs. Apart from getting you jabbed they would also want to ensure easy access to you in the case of an adverse reaction.

Kate Bingham needs a proof reader, doesn't give a very professional impression.

Until recently, Kate Bingham has been testing a prophylactic against self-promoting verbal diarrhoea, but when it clearly failed she got her present job.

Having been involved at the margins of some Civil Service/Quango bits of "recruitment", my personal view is that all involved were sh** scared of the private sector, if any private sector candidates were involved, and even more scared of the Commission, or whatever, for public appointments.

So average folk select average candidates.

I have also seen exceptional Civil Service - type candidates slung out because they were too good.

On the volunteering, SWMBO and I were both volunteers, and have heard nothing other than that bit of spin that everyone was s'posed to receive.

Ahah, I was invited to take part rather than just get the newsletters sent, by email, last week. In the email was a link to a website where further info was to be asked for and a consent thingy. Well I understand that to be what is on the webpage. Unfortunately my email browser flagged up a discrepancy between the link text and link diversion address and advised that a fraud was in progress and not to click it. I didn't. I have tried to clarify with the sender of the email but they don't reply.

Anyone else in this situation with the Covid vaccine volunteer scheme?

Not yet, but thanks for the heads up, if it does turn out to be a scam of some sort. Might just be government incompetence, but given that there's sensitive personal information involved, it seems quite likely that this may be a targeted scam.
