A Question of Sport

The BBC have announced that host Sue Barker is to leave as the corporation take the show in "a new direction."
Anyone care to have a punt who the new host will be?
I'll throw my hat in the ring with Tom Daley.

Q of S

The presenter will almost certainly be from a minority. Probably female again.

Jessica Ennis? Denise Lewis? Michael Johnson?

If the above names donít present Iíd put money on them as a team captain.

I donít have a problem with their selection by the way. Just saying it how I see it.

Isn’t it funny, all that these comments are not for the best person to replace her, but for people simply trying to fit in with some diversity agenda to satisfy the channels pc requirements.
Its a sad indictment of the world we live in now that the best person for a job is often ignored to meet some alternate ideology.

That's a shame, it's a daft, light hearted piece of entertainment, and Sue has been a great host.
It will need to be someone with wit, but a popular face whether or they have an outstanding sporting record. Outside bet? Robbie Savage. Would love to see Nicola Adams there, just not sure that she's telly savvi enough just yet (maybe a little too young as well).
Jurgen Klinsmann would be great if he wasn't otherwise occupied.

Johnson is (was) a fantastic athlete, and a great pundit/commentator, but I can't see him in the role of a light hearted game show host. I love him doing his pundit role; eloquent, intelligent and objective, but I don't see him holding an audience with QoS.

Q of S

I think itís telling that they say they want to take the show in a new direction.

Why mess with a winning format though?

Knowing how the BBC has been of late (just look at what they did with Radio 2) I canít see any way a man will get the job unless he is non-white.

I hear what youíre saying Nutty but as long as the new show is good fun to watch I donít care who they get.

Letís hope they donít go through a Top Gear like genesis where it takes a few iterations to settle on an acceptable format.

The most recent QoS format is vastly different to what it was when Sue Barker started. To maintain popularity over a long period things need to evolve or die. Looks like theyíre taking the evolution route, albeit with a complete change of regular cast as none of them showed any sign of going of their own accord. If either of the team captains had changed in the last 3-4 years theyíd probably have left them in place and just changed the host.
