I understand and concur with first sentence.

I have no idea what you are talking about in the 2nd

Saw an interesting documentary about the Woodstock Festival in 1969, with lots of revealing snippets from the event organisers. At the end of the film the event organisers were cleaning up the rubbish and it really did look absolutely filthy. So yes, I guess the current privileged generation did get it from their privileged parents.

Not saying that we aren't bad when it comes to litter, as we most certainly are, but the worst littering I've ever come across was in Austria.

I attended the AirPower airshow at Zeltweg in 2009, and at the end of the day the public areas were full of it. Far worse than I have ever seen at a British airshow. It was quite an eye opener, as I've always assumed Europeans were so much tidier than we were. Not going by that evidence they aren't.

I went to the Isle of Wight festival in 1970 and it was much the same. As I didn't have the money for the ferry fare back to the mainland I worked on site for two days afterwards, picking up litter and cleaning up the site. It was pretty grim, as there had been nowhere near enough toilets, so along with the normal rubbish there was plenty of crap (and worse). Not convinced I was in anyway "privileged", though. I hitch-hiked there and back with a mate, and barely had enough spare cash to be able to eat for five or six days. It wasn't helped by getting caught out in a lie when I got home. I'd told my mother I was going youth hostelling, but by pure bad luck our next door neighbour spotted me on the news, during the mass skinny dip on Freshwater beach. . .

During my 5 day visit to the world's largest air-display (Oshkosh) I never saw any littering.
Similarly no litter at the East Kirkby air-displays (helped by numerous bins regularly emptied throughout the day).
Perhaps aviators/spotters are aware of the consequences of FOD to aeroplanes?

Probably less alcohol or drugs consumed at an air show compared to a music festival or a day out at the beach

Actually, there is less violence and theft then in generations before. Itís only more in the open due to (social) media and camera phones. But hey, move to Wales if you would like to go back in time

It was such a nice balmy winter's day today that I decided a walk along the beach is warranted. During my walk I overheard a young 20 y/o talking loudly into her phone say the following:

"It’s those bloody povo's and the super povo’s that don’t like it because Jason’s got money."

Wow, what a sweet little hunk of heaven she growed up to be. I guess the word "povo's" implies those people living in poverty. And what are "super povo's"? Are they people with loads more nothing than the povo's? Extrapolating this concept further, what about the ultra povo's, they can't be beat, unless you come across the hyper povo's.

I was quite perplexed by her ignorance in her statement, it's as if she was completely unaware than many people are currently doing it tough during this pandemic, including many of the people she was passing. She should have known better for her age.

At least I learnt a new word today.

Probably started about the time they stopped National Service.
Lockdown (release) has just speeded up the process.
Funny that. I was going to say the same thing!

When did the British public become so disgusting?
When weren't they?
Did not the term "the great unwashed" arise as a reference to the British public?

So it is my imagination that in the 70s I could leave my motorcycle parked outside my house without chaining it down and that I could leave my van, full of expensive tools and fittings, without an alarm or fear of it being broken into?

Sorry Saul but what you say is misrepresentation.

Actually, there seemed to be less violence and theft then in generations before. Itís only more in the open now due to (social) media and camera phones.

We Brits started that rumour to deter invaders. It's worked since 1066.

M Mouse, in my large Lincolnshire village in the 80s and early 90s it was safe enough leaving your keys in the ignition when shopping. The police used to warn you not to. By the 00's with the influx of Southerners and our elevation to resort status is was no longer safe.

M Mouse it reads as though you were in an area where these risks were well known. Over the same timespan in UK, I have not been troubled in this regard.

However meantime I have suffered theft from vehicles in Spain and Germany.

I just can't get the mentality of "Here's a lovely spot to stop and eat. Let's leave all out crap here so it's not lovely anymore".
I had my boys running around for about ten minutes a while back trying to catch the plastic straw sleeve from a juice carton.
I had it instilled in me from an early age though.

What happened to all those public interest TV ads? Maybe that is where this decline set in. We need to get Jimmy Saville back on the telly. What’s he up to these days? Haven’t heard a thing about him for a decade or more.

I'm referring to just the overlap on the Venn diagram of Greta worshippers and gas huffers naturally. Perhaps the ones purporting to represent the youth could speak out against their fellow youth instead of only venting their spleen against the more senior members of society.
