In the UK, there have been 4 cases where variant CJD has been transmitted by blood transfusion.

In each case, the person received a blood transfusion from a donor who later developed variant CJD.

Three of the 4 recipients went on to develop variant CJD, while the fourth recipient died before developing variant CJD but was found to be infected following a post-mortem examination.

It's not certain whether the blood transfusion was the cause of the infection, as those involved could have contracted variant CJD through dietary sources.

edit: still pops up every now and again

The application is really easy to use. Please sign up to give as blood supplies are low at the moment. Unlike other responses, I always find the donation staff to be courteous and often full of humour. I'm just coming up to my 25th donation and the "feel good factor" always remains. As mentioned, it is great that they now notify you as to where your blood has been used

Just had to give up for the same reason as yourself, and just setting out on the journey / treatment. One of life's little curve balls. I had only got into early 30,s in donations so a bit gutted to have to give up.

Cheers

I always thought blood was stored for 2 weeks so tests could be done. I’m always shocked, disappointed yet chuffed that I get a text within 5/6/7 days saying “your blood has been dispensed to xxxxxx hospital”. My new game is to see how quickly I can get the triple bing to go off. 5 mins 37 seconds is my currant record. I
personally only go for the free custard creams at the end. Only place I can find them these days.

Back to Boeing... Mine are always after the 10 day storage. Strange. I thought they were storing it for covid reasons as they ask you to call them if you have any symptoms up to 10 days after your donation.
