With the world distracted, who's going to try what?

I'm wondering what with the coronavirus distracting everyone, what might some countries or other entities try to pull?
Maybe China invading Tawian?

My money is on North Korea kicking off. Not sure China has much in the way of spare resources right now.

VP: I am confident that the Chinese can multi task.
But if Vegas is still open, I might drop a twenty dollar bill supporing your bet on North Korea.

Read that Putin reset the clock in Russia enabling another 12 years at the top. Textbook Machiavelli.

He was going to do that anyway.
My question is: will this get the opposition stirred up enough that they ponder the lead plebiscite?

Saudis will try to wipe out competitors with a do or die move on oil prices

Have you noticed? or are we just reading about Coronas?

I noticed, the price at the pump was dropping here in Texas for the last few weeks, so I started watching the producer info.
Note, however, that each time the price of oil goes down it eventually goes back up again.
The question is by how much and how fast.
If you haven't read Crude Volatility by Robert McNally (2017, Columbia University Press) I strongly recommend it.
He explained why this thing that the Saudis just did was going to start happening far more often - this is our future, oil price instability with larger swings it peaks and valleys.

There was a saying that when America sneezes the world catches cold.
Now it's when China sneezes the world gets a pandemic or when someone farts in the Middle East we pay more, or less for gas.
I've sailed through or scraped by during world crises.
If the virus gets me it'll get me. I'm not distracted, I'll just keep on keepin on.

Ditto, I went to a large curry party tonight, no one mentioned the virus until the owner said if you are going to cough, cover it up. Not one cough all evening and no one seemed the slightest concerned.

I donít know as now would be a good time for the fatwun to test Trumpís patience. Ask them fellers in Iraq who had warheads on foreheads today as payback for the Recent American deaths.

When it comes to the virus and distractions, I would suggest the concerns should not be at international level.....lets face it, the various " disagreements " across the globe are going to continue irrespective of a pandemic, but far more orientated towards national and domestic issues..

This is applicable to any country by the way. The distraction caused by the virus, both currently and in the future, will prove very convenient for politicians, organisations, individuals who would prefer not to be exposed to public scrutiny if they have something to hide. The future is a bit different however in that the virus can, and probably will, become an equally convenient excuse for any failings, and certainly financial, which may emerge.

I could be wrong of course so when Luxembourg launches a pre-emptive strike on the USA and / or Russia I apologise in advance.

In Australia that's called "Taking out the garbage." And yes, you can bet that it has happened/will happen. Scotty from marketing was never one to miss such an opportunity.

The total concentration of the media on coronavirus any government, including the UK and US governments could pull pretty well any stunt they wish at the moment. The last couple of weeks, and unless we get a grip, the next couple of months could all offer unprecedented opportunities to bury bad news / controversial policies.

The UK has already postponed local elections that were to be held in May, and I wonder how long it will be before Trump signs a decree postponing the UK presidential election for a year or so.

The Chinese may prove very fortunate in having gone past peak infection levels whilst Europe is struggling to cope, and the USA mostly in complete denial.

I don't think Boris is quite ready for it just yet.

Sometimes I really wish there was a selection of "like" buttons on this forum . . .

I wondered if the deaths in some countries may conveniently contain people from certain minority groups or dissidents...?

The Chinese are up to something. Exactly what, I have no idea. There has been 3 Chinese biz jets in and out of Heathrow in the last 24 hours. They had also booked an arrival for an Air China Cargo 747 yesterday but cancelled it at the last minute. We don't see Air China Cargo aircraft here.
