So Israel and Gibraltar it is, unless you fancy splurging on the Seychelles or Maldives. The masses won't be happy...

I was thinking about a few nights in the old home town, Penzance, late September/October. Not in any rush to do anything other than maybe a couple of week days out June/July while the brats are still at school...

You could always try the tactic of booking in an working town or city and using this as a base to explore the surrounding area. I did this in Wales a few years back, booking in Llanelli as prices in the Gower and Carmarthenshire were crazy expensive. Worked quite well until we found out the centre of Llanelli was completely devoid of any eateries, everything having relocated to a shiny out-of-town centre beside the Scarlets' new home ground. Hey ho.

As a result, despite vaccinating 37% of the population of Chile with at least one dose in the last two months, they are experiencing a record number of daily cases at the moment, and the deaths are going up too. So that particular policy, requiring a Chinese vaccine, seems to be purely politically motivated.

Just saw on Spanish TV that Madrid & Andalucia are discussing with Russia about Sputnik vaccine.
EU apparently not keen.

Don't write off dead pan's suggestion. Base yourself in Manchester and enjoy the industrial heritage museums of the North, the Peak District, seaside resorts such as Blackpool, Southport, Lytham or Morecambe, visit the Lancashire Fells, Chester, maybe even the Lakes if the M6 is clear. Amazing what you can enjoy if you are prepared to be brave, open-minded and explore.

Personally I'd much rather go to a 'proper' town or city than some twee, rammed & over-priced tourist trap. The latter are best visited during the depths of the off-season, preferably when its chucking it down and blowing a gale.

I've used Methyr Tydfil as a base to explore the Brecon Beacons and beyond. As you alluded to, its interesting in its own right to stay in an ex-industrial town, get a feel for the place. These places are world away from where I live just outside Oxford. I've done the same in Europe too.

Or simply, they just haven't supplied any data for anyone outside China to peer review. Its shocking that any foreign government took such a gamble on total unknowns.

It would be good if Mods could confirm if he has been given some time out. I do sincerely hope something worse hasn't befallen him.

Perhaps there are other recently returned members of the forum who could bring us up to date about VP, he obviously has people here who are concerned.
