One assumes that article could be linked to this article, could it not be considered that these civil servants have been used to stopping government ministers doing what they have said they were going to do and are now realising who is actually in charge in Westminster
https://www.politico.eu/newsletter/s...vis-vs-huawei/

No. 10 vs. the mandarins: The Sunday Telegraph, meanwhile, has had a briefing from “senior Tories” who say that Downing Street wants to sack three top civil servants — Tom Scholar at the Treasury, Simon McDonald at the Foreign Office, and Philip Rutnam at the Home Office. “There are a few permanent secretaries that are on the ‘s***list’ who, given we’ve now got five years and a majority, won’t be there very long,” says one Tory source. There’s nothing new of course in politicians lashing out at their officials; but relations between the civil service and Johnson’s top team look very strained right now, in the wake of Home Secretary Priti Patel’s widely-reported bust-ups with Rutnam. One to watch.....

Interesting to read the views of those who support "strong management "....otherwise defined as autocratic bullying. With the background of many on here, you can understand the intrinsic appeal......there again, if the reports are correct, she appears to be following closely in the footsteps of Boris....the more realistic contributors will recall the security services didn't trust him either. I am at a complete loss as to understanding why this should be the case for both of them.....

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-51609047

And now. Boris and his plans......for those interested, there's a very informative piece in the Guardian about plans to build 11000 more homes.....hoorah !......on flood plains .

Priti pathetic. Teresa Villers now playing the misogyny card. Is it because I'm a girl? No Priti, it's because you make two short planks look like a candidate for Mensa!

I see its now been disclosed what this 'bullying' consists off - Priti striding out of her office and bellowing ‘Why is everyone so ******* useless?’

Aside from the obvious about shouting at the poor little snowflakes I would suggest that its quite a good question if you have had much experience with the Civil Service.

I am not a George Osborne fan but that riposte is hysterical.

Twitter must have gone into melt down, not to mention put down.

I assume in the interests of inclusivity she was including herself ( and the rest of the Cabinet ) in that rhetorical question .....

Incidentally, have you ever had to contend with this sort of bombastic and demoralising form of "management " that clearly appeals to you ?..it does, I assure you, become very debilitating very quickly.

Just for balance I have worked with large corporates in the private sector and was often tempted to say the same. However, in that sector due to their love of box ticking compliance anyone saying that would be out the door clutching their P45.

You pay peanuts, you get monkeys. That is equally if not more applicable to our politicians, most of whom if they had half a brain, would be in the private sector earning a lot more money.

Those who seem to admire her style of "management " and presumably her personality as well, may not appreciate this definitive article.....

You call that article definitive? To me it reads as little more than a gossip column.

I think it would be fair to say that both yourself and the Guardian are going to dislike and criticise any and every Tory politician regardless of what they say and do.

The trouble is that when that is the default position and repeated every day, ad nauseam nobody will really take it seriously any more.

I really do admire your tenacity but surely even you can’t believe everything written in the Guardian.

Lets have a look at another definitive article, not from such an erudite source as the Guardian, but no less valid for that:

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/a...el-comers.html

Some Whitehall officials have recently claimed that she’s a bully – but to me this sounds suspiciously like the moans of an recalcitrant Civil Service. No doubt Ms Patel is what you might call a bit of a bruiser.

But as Home Secretary she is responsible for, among other things, crime and counter terrorism. It is not a job for those with skin as thin as rice paper.

indeed ‘definitive’ is an odd description. John Crace is a Parliamentary sketch writer. i.e. a sort of gossip column when it comes down to it.

But this is the bit that is spot on, IMO.

What she does have, though, is the effortless self-confidence of someone who doesn’t have a clue just how dim she is.

Since December 12th last, KnC has transformed from someone who used to post fairly errudite (and often unreadable...) opinion to a rabid, tory-hating shoulder-chipped Guardian-yelling troll.
The Guardian is his bible, it cannot be surpassed. Apart form the odd left-leaning BBC scribbles...

The interesting aspect of all this Patel bashing is that she should be a Liberal’s wet dream.

A BAME female holding one of the highest positions of office in our country should be a cause for celebration.

At least our Liberal friends are demonstrating their penchant for equality I suppose. They will bash and decry any and every Tory regardless of race, gender or (probably) sexuality.

Bravo.

But BV, you mist understand that, in having joined the Conservative party, she - and all other BAME/female members - are by definition Uncle Toms/coconuts and thus traitors to their race/gender and therefore rendered outcast and anathema.....
