Of course no one is really worried about Plague, it’s treatable. The outbreak they fear is Avian Flu....

Checkpoints set up as Chinese plague outbreak spreads

Plague outbreaks in the remote north of China have led health officials to install temperature scanners at airports and checkpoints on main roads in an attempt to stop the disease from spreading.

A new plague case was reported yesterday in Inner Mongolia when a herder in an area where the virus had not yet been identified fell ill. That brought the number of confirmed cases to four. The herder is in a stable condition and those who came into contact with him have been quarantined, officials in Ulanqab, the northern region of Inner Mongolia, said.

Local governments are scrambling to eradicate rats and their fleas, which transmit the infection. Authorities have set up scanners to check people for fever and checkpoints at airports and on roads to inspect all traffic leaving the province. A public awareness campaign has also begun.

The bubonic plague, known as black death in the Middle Ages, is a highly infectious and often fatal disease. There is a deadlier variant called pneumonic plague. Having originated in inner Asia and spread west via Crimea, it is estimated to have killed a third of Europe’s population between 1347 and 1352.

In Xilingol, Inner Mongolia, where the first three new cases were identified, residents said numbers of rats had been unusually high this year. The latest case was reported in Siziwang, more than 300 miles away from Xilingol. Two of the patients, a couple from Xilingol, were transferred in the middle of this month to Beijing, where they had the pneumonic strain of the disease diagnosed.......

Health authorities tried to reassure people that the risk of the disease spreading was “extremely low” but a few days later a 55-year-old man had the plague diagnosed, also in Xilingol. Twenty-eight people who had come into close contact with him were quarantined. No death has been reported.

In Ulanqab, authorities said the herder’s home and adjacent homes had been thoroughly disinfected........

This is how it starts if you read Max Brooks 'World war Z'.
Cracking book. The film wasn't a patch on it.

I can handle all of those except "Freeze Bollocks"; that one sounds truly horrendous...can you give us a heads up on the initial symptoms or are they obvious?
