I recall a new poster complaining when some of their posts were removed.

Several people pointed out, in a kind and gentle manner, that if posts were irrelevant or violated the rules of engagement, they would get removed.

When they continued to complain, and claimed that freedom of speech should allow them to say anything, people pointed out that they were welcome to start their own internet forum where they could post whatever they wished, but that this was Danny's website.

The thread title was changed to,
"I am a delicate hothouse flower"
which ticked off the poster even more.

I don't know if they left in a huff after the thread title change,
or if they were escorted out the door, but they posted nevermore.

I joined PPRuNe around 1998, just before the server crash so I had to rejoin under a new handle.
Times have changed and the "regular/former" forum members "411A, WWW, slasher, draper" provided opinions for the viewing audience and I miss their banter.

Still check in from time to time, but as there seems to be more non professional pilots posting on various parts of PPRuNe, so it has certainly changed the original intent of PPRuNe.

Who springs to mind.....

Tall n Tasty
I was one of the above guilty parties - until banned - and I remember arguing a lot with several of the others. As you said... too much time and not enough wisdom. I guess back then I looked to wind things up and apologise to anyone I truly offended.

I was very sad to read that Tony Draper had passed away and I was disappointed at the manner in which it was conveyed here. Mr. Draper always had a wry take on things and was extremely good at putting it into just the right words. I was always surprised at the rare occasions when people took offence to his comments and can only put it down to envy. I considered it something of an honour to have a post responded to by him on rare occasion. What a shame to lose him.

Mr. Cheerio was another contributor, and under-rated if I may say so, whose posts I enjoyed.

Eal ….. I found his cranky posts amusing. Always offended, never listened to. But somehow entertaining anyway.

I joined in 2003 but was lurking in the background since well before then. I remember PPRuNe, and especially JB back in the day, it was much more fun and jovial than it is now. Almost anything went provided it wasn't libellous. Unfortunately most of the really colourful and interesting characters seem to have deserted, been banned or croaked it. Or, maybe some are still here under different names but just aren't permitted to get away with debauchery that went on back then There are so many I remember but some of my favorites were:

Slasher - Filthy, funny and just larger than life crazy.
Tricky Woo - Seriously funny, witty and used to write some rather depraved and hilarious stories in movie script style, often featuring ppruners as the main characters.
Tony Draper - I was genuinely saddened to hear he had passed away. He was intelligent, interesting and witty. His posts reflected that and I think Eclan sums it up perfectly. Incidentally, Drapes and Tricky Woo used to wind one another up in a light hearted way and I seem to remember it was Tricky Woo who gave him the tag Herr Draper on account of Tony's dislike of all things foreign.
Anthony Carn - A master of sexual innuendo and dirty puns.
Jerricho - The poor [email protected]@er was tormented by a Mother in Law that he loathed, much to the amusement of fellow Jet Blasters. I recall how distraught and horrified he was one morning when he caught her gargling his best single malt Irish whiskey and spitting it into the sink. Someone even signed up here with the user name Jerricho's MIL and would reply to his posts in a nagging and intrusive way just to further torment him.

I really do miss the banter, the carry on and the wind ups that brought this place to life. I don't bother posting much any more because Jet Blast just doesn't have the same character or chemistry that it once had. It is just far too drab and serious a place now but I do sometimes look back through threads from many years ago when I need something to lift me up.

I joined in 2008 when being forced into early retirement from a ME carrier. Fabbo Arab FO asked "Jordo( they found it difficult to pronounce the hard G) , have you joined Pee PPRuNe ?". He told me how to type into the search window as I struggled with being forced into the cyber world by my employer. "Just type Peeproon" said Abdullah. Blimey, I hardly got past "pee" and the filth that came up in me junk box was engaging. Had a lot of explaining to do to the Memsahib who had just bought the computer as I had no idea how to delete.

European FO larfed as I retold a comment I read from one poster, having an awful spat with a fellow but rounded off by saying ; " I think I know who are and I think I know where you live " ! Cripes . This is getting nasty.

Also knew several posters being banned or being severely warned off by the Mods. I too was told off for using words like Tw..p, or Pr..k . Blimey mates, I was just copying the Ozies ! More recently, a good mate of mine has had yet another very funny post taken down. WHY ? It was VERY funny. Mods don't like him much.

GAlan : I agree. It is badly policed and become a bit boring. I lurk about for the larf of the day but that too (mostly from Fragrant Harbour) has become less entertaining . The PC brigade have, really, won. This post will probably be taken down as I am criticising the Mods, albeit mildly . Not allowed ! Thinking of returning to the older trustworthy venues for my regular rants. Yeah, like the local Taverna with it's dwindling audience. We are all heading for a minor entry in "Where Are They Now", eh ?

I was first introduced to PPRuNe back in 1998 when the internet was still a Wild West where anything went. My previous employer threatened legal action as they were fed up of Pilots posting negative comments on the Australian forums.

So many of the old characters have passed on now after 20+ years, perhaps we should have a hall of fame for those like Tony Draper ?

Wholigan still going strong
cancer seems to have taken many; Davaar, Norm (how's his wood growing)
Some just disappeared, Civis for example

G-CPTN seems to have suddenly disappeared in July after being a very frequent poster for years. As he seems to have run ins with the mods over the years (frequency of posting rather than content IIRC) - wonder if he fell or was pushed!

Someone recently mentioned Tall n Tasty.

I used to picture her as looking like Joanna Lumley!

Anyone know of her current status? Believe that she fell foul of someone and was sin binned, never to return. Sad really.

T'n'T was a regular poster on "Agony Aunts", a "help" thread which had to be permanently deleted by the site owners. As one poster later so succinctly put it, there was too much "agony" in the "aunt".

G-CPTN and Slasher are both alive and well. Slasher is not in Vietnam.

Well it seems Rail Engineer ran a similar questions few years ago.

I did enjoy the whole atmosphere here and it helped me more than once.

Apart from getting off the hamster wheel, probably stuffing leaflets in letterboxes.

It pains me to hear about Draper - I always loved his style and posts from Draper Towers.

I've been around since 97 and lost my original name in 2000. I've read and learnt a lot through the various forums, including how not to be a pompous idiot! I recall the outcry when JetBlast was banished further down the forum list - what a debarkle. We've lost many since the sale and the 'feel' has changed. I still lurk to see what we're all up to.
