I also received a death threat for posting something that didn't seem at all controversial to me or anyone else!
P.S. Thanks, SND for your kind comment - likewise. There's a lot to grin about in our line of aviation (or otherwise one can only cry)!

WWW, remember you well. I think I went unbanned but definitely got a a slap from a moderator, unwarranted of course but then I would say that!
ShyTorque is another familiar name. Heli pilot, like being gay in the Republican party. We must accept you but you turn in a different way.

You could get away with a heck of a lot more back in the old days... danny would come in and whip everyone now and again and not with subtlety, but I guess a firm hand was needed, miss those times, seems like a lot more folk around with widely diverging viewpoints and not afraid to voice them. JB is a shadow of its glory decade around 1999 to 2009, but especially up until about 2005 or so. Just my opinion. Registered 2004 but have read the forum since almost day one on and off so nearly twenty years. God, time flies.

Flaps is on Twitter under her real name but posts mostly in Norwegian and Hungarian, so I've usually got no idea what she's on about. She did give me a swift lesson on climate change once! Ouch!

As a relative newcomer (12 years on this site) I can summarize my relationship with PPRuNe as follows:
- initially very interested, progressing to more active participation through my first few years
- thoroughly enjoyed professional and challenging fora and discussions (such as AF447 and others)
- a few years ago started to back away from posting, as the number of antagonistic and rude posts on (almost all) forums increased. Although these were seldom if ever directed at me I simply don't wish to be part of a conversation where such behaviour is commonplace. This is not unique to PPRuNe; it's a common problem with online fora, wherein people seem far more apt to behave in a less polite, nastier way. If one runs into such people in a "real life" encounter one simply avoids or discontinues contact with that particular person, but (and here's the rub...) that isn't possible online. As a result I visit less and post less. And if I do post I'm far more apt to post in a social or non-technical forum or thread on PPRuNe as those are less agressively confrontational (though even that isn't always the case). Sadly, for informed and enjoyable discourse on aviation subjects, such sites as PPRuNe are suffering from that same general internet malaise. The internet is the great leveler, such that even sites directed at specific professions or subjects are becoming ever more Facebook like.
- still visit once about once a day to read through my favourite threads and hopefully come away having learned something useful or interesting. Or at least a chuckle.

What happened to Herr Draper? I know he was ill. When did he die?
I once accused him of being French...he was not best pleased!

Tower Dog. Flaps40 actually speaks about 7 languages fluently and gets by in several more. She actually does speak Norwegian and Hungarian so is highly likely to be posting in those languages; or French, or Italian, or Spanish, or English, or Dutch, or German, or indeed a few more.
Flaps and FlyBlue and I were JetBlast mods for a long time, but none of us moderate now.

Chatroom, agony aunt, the old JB mods... good times indeed! And one character who went by several aliases, was very proud of having a "university degree" - but was so easily wound up that her identity would always emerge eventually!
Heh, pleasant stroll down memory lane... though first I'd heard about Draper's passing, hope he's R'ing IP.
Did meet up with a few ppruners IRL, during a trip to Australia back when I could afford to travel. Great craic.

Wow. Had a look in Jb today and found this thread. I joined prune many years ago and cant remember my old name. It’ll come to me if I stop and think. Just finding out about Mr Draper is sad. He was a character from my homeland. Some of the names mentioned are coming back to me and I think I spent half my life on PPRuNe back then before I was even a commercial pilot. I need to go back and remember my first moniker on here.
Thanks all for the enjoyment, knowledge and laughs I’ve had.

Those were some fine times. I learned so much. I think I got here, 1998....got lost in the Great Crash and came back. Still miss Da’avar. Con-pilot, all the wit and half-wits! Bless Danny for all he brought for us.
