The usual great reporting.

The usual great reporting.

Sadly we have lost another floatplane in BC. As mentioned elsewhere we are having a bad Summer for it. However today we learned that SAR members jumped to their aid wearing breathing gear and flippers. The news actually told us so which is a bit strange considering the aircraft is down in forest and not near the water.

Silly boy, beat the fire out with the flippers while breathing pure oxygen.

Silly me. But the picture (actually shown on the news) of SAR guys jumping into boreal forest in big flippers and aqualungs was just too good to pass up.

Seriously...

You guys sure are funny...actually you're a grim bunch, so how about a moment for those involved? In our house the accident hit us all very hard. One of my family members is close to the company and it's the loss of a former colleague that we are helping him deal with. So let's dial the fun down a little please? The coast of BC isn't an easy place to fly, what with the added pressure of summer hours, and pushy owners. I still can't believe that some operators get away with the crap they spew about "just get it done, or the next guy will." This is 2019, not 1980. With a little luck the owner gets his ass handed to him after the facts are known. Additionally I would hazard a guess that the SAR Techs always carry both water and land gear when they get called out. I'm pretty sure that all they knew when they scrambled is that it was a float plane that went down. What would your thinking be if you were them? First responders get a hero vote from me every time I hear about what they go though to try to save a life.
