That may well be the technical theory, but, IMHO, the vast majority of the electorate actually vote based on party lines.

The UK is a representative democracy where the MP is expected not only to represent his/her constituents, but also to exercise his/her judgement in the best interests of those constituents. That might not always be exactly what the voters thought they had voted for. If, in the judgment of the MP, he or she is convinced that by following exactly what the electorate voted for they will be substantially disadvantaged, what should he or she do?

No, far from it. I've had an excellent day so far. Bright and sunny.
But thank you for asking.

Of course they do, and furthermore once elected, so do MPs.
There are a very few brave enough to go against their Whips Office wishes.

Dear Sally Ann,
The story is true enough and although it has no relevance to Brexit, there is a certain salacious similarity between the two main protagonists of my parallel universe and I do apologise for sticking an r when an r don't belong. I am please to see though that you are at least familiar with Quisling's first Christian name although I wonder if you know that his second one was Abraham? I enjoy your posts, sometimes, please don't become a grammar Nazi. It's such an unbecoming trait in the young beautiful.
Toodle pip.

" In Oslo, a city in Sweden "

Well there's two ways of looking at this......

The first is that geography isn't going to be your chosen specialist subject on "Mastermind "......

The second is that it was the perfect introduction to the surreal fantasy that followed.....

Or both.......

So let's see
1. You got the name wrong
2. You got the country wrong
3. You compared someone with no conscience conspiring with Hitler to stay in their position with someone whose conscience wouldn't let them stay in their position.

It's a tough job writing stories isn't it?

A great many voters in by-elections have no idea what their prospective MP is pretending to be or even much care, they vote on Party Lines
But we do seem to be moving towards a cult of personality type system as they have across the pond, so if you come back and make the same statement in 10 years time it might well be true

You will have to explain the relevance of that irrelevant comment.

To explain mine, outside the Westminster hothouse and political pundits Brexit is not top of the agenda, in fact is rarely mentioned at all.

May be it should.

More likely is our total irrelevance in the process; whatever we think, say, or do it will not affect the price of fish in Grimsby.

Only the red herrings get filleted in Alice in Wonderland and no one ever beheaded the cat because that was all that anyone could ever see of him which of course, makes a beheading impossible, even if the Queen demands it.

Seems I don't, given the sneering.
