Trump is a fine figurehead for right wing America and all it holds dear, I'm happy you have him as President, you do truly deserve him

I remember well, as a young soldier, getting kitted up in combat kit and armed with a pick axe handle to go to Grosvenor Square in 1968 to put an end to a series of horrible demonstrations. (Our departure for London was cancelled at the last minute as the plod got the upper hand). I would rather see a silly balloon fly over London than a re-run of that particular piece of nastiness.
Speaking of Air Force One (going to Stansted, by the way, does his holiness take offence at the DHL 757, named "Hair Force One"?

The balloon is positively friendly compared to the German approach:

Nobody said anything about pick axe handles at the time - what we were told was that there were marines with machine guns inside the embassy, and it was these that plod was trying to keep the crowd safe from (by preventing the crowd invading the embassy).

And if there was a similar stunt ( balloon and all ) by Farage and his supporters next time Juncker's in town ??

Or one of Verhofstadt ??

Or how about one of Varadkar tethered to the top of Stormont ?

But silly me thinking they would be allowed as ' just humorous pranks '

Deeply, deeply offensive and disrespectful at a time when the UK needs every friend it can get....

That was an anti-war song with a music video that portrayed Blair literally as a poodle rolling over for the warmongering Bush and supporting the invasion of Iraq. Not a particularly uncommon opinion at the time and - at least in my eyes - a much more valid opinion to express than much of the 'he's not one of us' based criticism of Obama and later Trump.

I delivered thousands of election leaflets with that theme. Which worked wonders amongst the champagne socialists, of whom there are a fair number in my ward ... until tuition fees, of course.

Balloons are supposed to be for fun.
And it's go big or go home these days.

Gertrude: Pick axe handles (or pick helves as they were properly known) were the standard issue for guard duties etc in the UK. The really good ones were the slightly shorter version with an iron collar around the business end. The rules said you were to hit offenders above the collar bone, more or less where the neck joins the shoulder. Accepted practice though was to hit the knee caps. Nobody writhing on the deck with a pair of non-functioning knees was likely to be much further trouble and a smashed knee cap was not likely to lead to a possible fatality.
Indeed, there were machine guns set up within the embassy. A friend of mine was manning one and he was neither marine nor US serviceman. Instructions for using them said they were a last resort should the police line fail and the mob got into the embassy.
To be honest, we were disappointed when the operation was cancelled. That whole period had been particularly nasty and it was time to put a halt to it all. Do you remember the member of the Household Cavalry who got fed up with rioters letting off fireworks under his horse's wedding tackle. He caught one at it and gave him a terrific whack with the flat of his sword. Oh what a lot of crying and wailing about that, with some demanding the soldier be punished. The Army responded by saying the soldier is given a weapon to defend himself and that is exactly what he did. He was to be commended!
BA Engineer: It is indeed James May. It was apparently part of an Amazon promotion for the Grand Tour series.

Even if they managed to get captive ballon clearance for ENSF in R157, according to this NOTAM, unless they're an exception on the briefing sheet, legally the balloon will have to sit on the ground.

Nothing against Obama,Turin but I’ve just been watching some earnest old bag on the news protesting against Trump’s “misogyny”. Anyone would have thought he’d had sex in the Oval Office!!

I gather the Democrats who were demanding that police stop enforcing the law in black areas of their cities are now complaining that crime there is out of control and the police won't enforce the law.

So, can we buy smaller versions of these Trump Baby balloons anywhere yet?

Of course it's OK to engage with Trump in this way.

It's pointless having any kind of serious debate with him. If he replies at all, he replies with numbers pulled straight out of his sleeve.

Hey, Trump likes any kind of attention.

The more tasteless, the better he likes it.

Somehow, Trumpophobes haven't caught on to that!

Thousands protest at Trumps visit.

They must have all been otherwise occupied when it was revealed that thousands of young girls were repeatedly raped by grooming gangs.
