The only ads that I see on this forum are the ones at the top of the page that are usually for recruitment agencies (which I suppose is quite understandable on PPRuNe).

Using Win7 + Firefox but no specifically installed adblocker.

I don't see ANY ads on here but do suffer from the ' scrolling to the botom of page and frozen cursor ' two or three times each day.

Strange how we all suffer in different ways....

I've just installed UBlock. No adverts and no jumping to the bottom of the page.

Horrible advertisements on Pprune

I know that PPRuNe have to run adverts, but must I be subjected to pictures of, for example, earwax every time I look at the forums?

Can other, more appropriate ads be shown instead? (Or just not the earwax one).

The ads are shown specific to you. I SAID THE ADS ARE SHOWN SPECIFIC TO YOU.

Someone's selling earwax?
That's pretty niche.

The site has no control over that. It will have sold its space to a company like Doubleclick ( owned by Google ) when then fills the space by using an algorithm based on what it thinks are your "interests ".* and presenting appropriate products. These "interests" are defined by sites you have visited or words you have used in search patterns, so you must have somehow expressed your interest;

How long this last seems variable. I am still getting one specific ad' popping up years after I looked at it once ( a unique " executive-toy " type spinning-top.

* Years ago there was the amusing episode of John Prescott ( ? ) criticising the Daily Mail for running so many adverts about Thai catalogue-brides: amusing because he also didn't understand the link.

I'm currently getting PfCO drone training adverts, no interest in drones at all so it must occasionally be down to luck of the draw. Didn't Pifco used to make hair curlers?

I'll drone on about inappropriate ads. So far today I've had hand fueling carts, industrial air conditioning, drones. business software and cheap Business Class air fares. Just the things I need on a Monday morning.

Let's see what I get if I type in nuclear power stations.

Strange. I'm being plagued with drone sprayers and I've no interest in farming or drones either.

You only get earwax!? I get dick - Smith, that is, Dick Smith. I suspect he doesn't even know his name & image are being used.

It was Gavin Barwell (conservative), MP for Croydon Central (now Baron Barwell, one-time Chief of Staff to Theresa May and the subject of censure for electoral malpractice) and the link was to Arab Girls dating sites. It happened in 2013 (he had been married since 2001).

Contemporaneous report here.

I am getting Bentley adverts. Never wanted one, or even looked at one, but popping up today for some reason along with HomeAway ?

TF
I remember the John Prescott issue, which as you say was quite amusing

Kind regards
Mr Mac

I also recall Prescott.

I've now got Oak World, a local Toyota garage and some kind of maritime GPS chart plotter vying for my most unlikely custom...
