Kobe Steel.

Kobe says 500 firms affected in steel scandal.

Japan's third largest steelmaker admitted falsifying quality data, possibly for as long as a decade.

I'm more worried about the car manufacturers saying they used KOBE Aluminium for car bonnets!
It may be endemic, I had a line manager who couldn't tell Aluminium from Stainless steel. :roll eyes:

Perhaps that's what caused the fan failure on the Air France blunder bus the other day!

It will be interesting to see if this spreads within Kobe, rather like Volkswagen emissions..

It's not just steel. There's a lot of dodgy copper out there that came from China which was used for pressure vessels. A number of boiler stays have snapped which have been found to have the same properties which show they were from the same batch.

Back in the 1970s, the Russians palmed off a load of rubbish steel onto the Italians in exchange for the tooling used to make the Fiat 124, which became the Lada.

This steel was then used in the manufacture of cars which rapidly dissolved into piles of rust.

It probably looked okay, though quality testing must have been missed out on.
