Share your 3 wishes...?

By way of some light relief I hope. When I was working I was sometimes required to work until 11pm and then travel home by train and car which took about an hour and a half. After I'd finish reading the evening newspaper and crossword etc I was usually the last one left in the carriage and generally had about 15 minutes of the train journey to go. By way of personal engagement, I got to thinking that if I had 3 wishes what would they be? I made the rule that the wishes had to be of significance and not trivial. I gave this much thought over the course of 25 years and over time decided my 3 wishes would be:

1. If Jesus Christ did exist, he promised that he would return among us one day. I would like that day to be in my lifetime. I would like to witness the response and effect of someone, who could clearly practically demonstrate who they were, on the global population.

2. We are in the 21st Century and we know that one day life on Earth will cease, let us assume due to the Sun finally giving out on us. How far in the future will that be - of course we do not know. Mankind has made remarkable progress and I would like my second wish to be that I would like to experience that final year on Earth to see just how far we went. Perhaps I might be on my own if mankind has realised the game is up and have transported themselves by means not currently known to us to another safer place! Perhaps it might be physically very unpleasant in that last year and I might regret my wish. Will humans even be alive? Will robots be running the place? Will humans have 6 fingers on each hand? Who knows.

3. Even after many, many years thinking about it I could never decide on the third wish. I still sometimes think about it even in retirement.

So, I invite you all to think about your three wishes and let us know. And remember I did say they had to be significant and not trivial, so please no "winning the lottery" or "I wish I had x-ray vision" stuff. And please don't spend decades thinking about it!

That comes under trivial so doesn't count. My thread, my rules.

It would be no trivial wish to have as a third wish the wish that one might survive the arrival of the first two wishes in happiness and in health.

You've just made that up, now if that were your second wish I would consider that trivial too and thus not allowed also.

My first wish is for me to remain compus mentus until my time comes.

My second wish, is to shuffle off this mortal coil with a clear conscience and in peace, when my time comes.

My third wish is conditional. If I develop a debilitating and life-limiting illness, I want to be able to choose the time of my passing. If I don't, then I wish my passing to cause the minimum amount of sorrow to those I leave behind.

My father had the right idea. Before he died he gave clear instructions that no one that attended his funeral should wear black, and all, men and women, should wear the most colourful clothes they possessed (the expressions on the faces of the local directors of the bank he'd worked for who were forced to wear psychedelic ties was hilarious). He also set aside £1500 for a wake, where the only rule was that no one was allowed to shed a tear of sadness (this was in 1972 - so £1500 procured a serious amount of drink).

Dunno about the first two, but the third wish is always to undo the first two. Law of narrative causality or wha'ever.

Just in case yellowtriumph is that genie in the bottle, here are my three.

That tomorrow I rise for another day.
That all those that I love and care for rise with me tomorrow.
That if I am not to rise then let it be tomorrow.

1. Every terrorist and dictator of every religion or persuasion, present and future would be instantly whisked off to a new unescapable unvisitable island in the mid Pacific where they could spend the rest of their lives killing each other with sticks and stones while the rest of the world moved on in prosperity and freedom.

2. Every world medical facility, school, food supply, housing and energy source would be free and fully funded, famine, homelessness and suffering would be eradicated. Except for those covered under item 1.

3. All plant, animal, fish, wildlife stocks and natural resources would be restored to a full natural and sustainable level, while pollution, plastics and human produced waste products would be eradicated from the planet.

@ Nutloose, I think your number 3 might be incompatible with number 2.

6 fingers on each hand? OP, there are many places in the UK where that is the norm, just ask the residents of Sheppey!

Chris the Robot,

How about having six limbs? The front with hands just like the ones we have now, the aft pair with normal feet like our current ones and the mid pair able to function as both hands and feet. Just think how useful it would be for DIY and gardening.

I'll have to think about the next two wishes.

1. A painless cure for all forms of cancer with no side/after effects.
2. Nuclear, biological and chemical weapons eradicated.
3. When their time comes, a quick and painless death for everyone.

Lets be honest, Nutloose: if your wishes actually came true, what exactly would people do all day (and night)?

The world would be a lot more boring.

I'll take boring, although I don't think it would be.

Although 'terrorist or dictator' is, of course, in the eye of the beholder.

You have to keep your wishes secret, although you can tell the genie.

It sounds as if your genie got fed up with waiting and left though, yellowtriumph.

1. That I stay fit and active, sound in body and mind, though that is a vanishing prospect.

2. That I have sufficient money to enjoy life as I wish. I see no point in having thousand, millions or billions when hundreds gets me what I want. I mean, who wants a mega yacht with minions at my beck and call; I value my privacy and one maid and valet would suffice.

3. When my time comes I don't want to join a waiting list in some care home.
