Does anyone still use e-mail socially?

I don't own this space under my name. I should have leased it while I still could

Actually I find Outlook is near 100% in its junk filtering too. I let one or two through and report to Talktalk. I use Mailwasher filters too.

Certainly after a concerted effort reporting to talktalk the number of spams have dropped, unless they are running out of Russian Brides etc and also free Dyson's to test and keep. Does Sir James know?

Only email here. Separate accounts for business and personal mail. They do all that I need.
I do have a dummy account on farcefook, used just for being nosey about people who expose their lives there.

Like many here, I binned Facebook mainly due to the mountain of rubbish I faced every morning - including that posted by old friends who clearly spend way too much of their time there.

That said, when looking at the age of all those posting here, me included, there must be a younger army out there that is screaming 'FFS, get a life!'

We use email to communicate with friends and when wishing to communicate on a professional level with service providers etc. We got one from Carluccios the day before yesterday entitling us to a free bottle of wine up to the value of 19.95 if we went in and bought two main dishes - and very nice it was too.

We use Wasap just to communicate between our two selves, we find it very handy.

Should I stop worrying because e-mails not asking for/needing a reply do not get one, and these days instead of replying 'no', people just do not reply?
If you're using Outlook to compose your email messages, then you can select a 'delivery receipt' under 'Options' when you are composing the email. When it is delivered to the recipient you will receive back a delivery receipt to inform you that the email has been delivered to the receivers email account.

At least you will see that it has been delivered to them - whether they wish to reply to you is of course another matter.

You might get a notification a year later saying "this email was deleted unread".

The method I've suggested informs you (the sender) automatically that the email has been delivered to the recipient. In this way it eliminates the age old question "I wonder if they received my email? I wonder if I sent it to the wrong email address?"

Whether they choose to read or reply to your email is another question altogether - but at least you know it was delivered to the recipient.

I get something like two or three hundred e-mails every day - not including those that my spam filter sends directly to jail without passing GO. I couldn't possibly read all of them, let alone answer them. As I write this there are 89 messages in my "deleted items" folder that I haven't even read, waiting to go the great Trash Folder in the sky. E-mail is for work. Social messages belong on social media.

Lunch break over, back to the system. 99 messages sent to oblivion. Apologies to those who expected a reply...

I'm with Bergerie1 (#15). I exchange emails with my niece in Melbourne every day. Would not touch any "social" Websites, other than PPRuNe, with a bargepole !

My old Mum used to say: "The Names of Fools are like their Faces - _
Always seen in Public Places"

Facebook is for under 35's roughly. Any proper grown up using it is fked.
What's app is good but will eventually be rolled, into Facebook ... but something else will take its place .
.insta whatever. no idea . But it's popular with the youth and sad older people who, want to see what their sporting heroes are having for dinner
