American Made (2017)

Never really been a Tom Cruise fan, but probably his best aviation movie since Top Gun
Actually thoroughly enjoyed it and funny in places...like when they were betting on whether he'd clear the trees at the end of the runway.

For me all his best films have been when he was playing non-typical roles for his type-cast image. 'Born on the 4th of July' and 'Collateral' are two that spring to mind. From the film trailer 'American Made' looks like it's worth a punt, but maybe they were all the best bits....

A flying role of another sort, "Eyes Wide Shut".

SHJ, like Jack Reacher

Casting a 5 ft 7 in midget as a 6 ft 5 in man mountain.

He's got a lot of personality.

"remember, you asked for this..."

and

"How about the inside of an ambulance?"

were some of the best I've ever heard.

(I'm 5'6")

CB and AM, apologies but I was also referring to his stature and well as his length. It is just the stupidity of Holywood casting. Now Danny DeVito and Arnold S was inspired.

The film looks very interesting and I must admit I had never heard of Barry Seal prior to watching the film's trailer. The American government and intelligence agencies sure did let him down though and virtually left him out to dry.

I'd never read any of the Jack Reacher books, so didn't have a preconceived picture in my head as to how JR should look. In reality a 5' 7" midget ;-) would be more effective than a man mountain, as long as he could handle himself as the character does. I have always been surprised when seeing certain 'stars' in the flesh and the reality of their physicality contradicts the screen image.

Regarding stature, it seems to me to be more about how the person holds themselves than anything else.

It's not bad. Better than most of the drivel that's been out recently ..
I'm pretty sure there was one stunt he didn't do though .
Well if it was a stunt and not cgi

No apologies required, what I didn't receive in height was compensated for in sense of humour.

Orac, best size for bullet dodging. I remember a story from the Normandy Bocage, they were in a road with high banks but there was a gap and a sniper. Everyone got through except an officer, 6 ft plus, who was shot in the head.

F-14, but with another pilot called a nickname similar to Boofhead or Drongo or something, who just kept pulling g while Tom had his head down depositing breakfast in a paper bag - he reckoned his head almost touched the floor.

And for Jack reacher, in my mind was somebody like Henry Rollins. Not TC. Not even close.

Top Gun claimed a giant. Art Scholl.

The two best things about Tom Cruise's movie (Only seen one):

Bob Sieger and Rebecca deMornay.
