The means justifies the end

So the police use one scrote to catch others. I don't have a problem, frankly, particularly as how 18 rather unpleasant individuals are now facing spells in prison.

As long as he is watched closely and arrested as soon as he even litters then maybe OK but I would not expect him to be free long enough to spend it!!

How's this for a deal: we'll leave out the drawing and quartering part.

It's a pretty simple decision, isn't it?

Which would you rather have, 18 child sex offenders locked up, or one former child sex offender locked up, rather than providing intelligence and evidence to lock the other 18 up?

What's more, given the high profile, at least within the police, of the sex offender turned informer, I strongly suspect that he will be under pretty close supervision, and at a reduced risk of re-offending.

Yup, your average British names there.

Why is it that when we read of such vile crimes they invariably involve scumbags of this ilk?

I sincerely hope they are all expelled to where they [originally] came from and stripped of any British citizenship. I for one certainly don't want my tax paying for these deviants to enjoy accommodation in our prison system.

555 per offender? That's got to be a bargain in anyone's eyes.

Without the intel from the informant, you're probably talking hundreds of thousands after accounting for time, surveillance, overtime, etc. etc.

Getting people to grass has been a police tactic since the bow street runners ..
The fact the crimbos know it makes it even more effective ..
Split the gang up, tell them the first one to puke gets 50 per cent off his sentence and pass out the sick bags..
Don't let these scumbags trust each other. Ever

To be fair to the plod, this 10K was paid out over the period of the investigation, perhaps over a period as long as 4 to 5 years. They didn't drop a paper bag with 10K into his pocket as he left the police station. Also, if this action saved just one girl from this evil lot, then it was money well spent. I would guess though that they saved an awful lot more than just one more victim.

What I find distasteful is the way much of the news media has highlighted the payment to the informer over the vile [and racist] crimes committed by these scum.

News media never concentrate on the good news but seek to find controversial aspects of any story.

A former head of prosecutions for North West was on BBC radio earlier telling everyone how there was no need to use an informant in this case. As a 'former', he will know nothing about the specifics of this case and really ought to wind his neck in......seems to be plenty willing to whinge when they havent a scooby about this particular case.
Meanwhile the elephant in the room is not being addressed for fear of being called racist...good old BBC.

A female MP has stated that these men were not specifically targeting white girls - but they would not have been allowed access to girls of their own ethnicity - and if they did then the whole Asian community would have been down on them like a ton of bricks.

I do so agree. 10k very well spent in my opinion.

favete linguis - looking at the ages of the convicted, I think its likely that most of them will have been born in the UK, so there will be no chance of extraditing them anywhere, more's the pity.

If the police had paid out 10k to an informant that brought down a gang of armed robbers, no one would have batted an eye lid.

I suspect that those shouting the loudest are somewhat hypocrites.

One Labour MP has come out and said it:

Quote:
A fear of being called racist is preventing authorities investigating the reasons behind child abuse cases, an MP has claimed.

Rotherham MP Sarah Champion was speaking after 17 men were convicted of forcing girls in Newcastle to have sex.

Mostly British-born, they are from Iraqi, Bangladeshi, Pakistani, Indian, Iranian and Turkish communities.

Ms Champion said asking if there were "cultural issues" was simply "child protection".

Northumbria Police said society "can't be afraid to have this discussion".

Speaking on BBC Radio 4's Today programme, Ms Champion, Labour's shadow women and equalities minister, said gang-related child sexual exploitation involves "predominately Pakistani men" who were involved in such cases "time and time and time again".

"The government aren't researching what is going on. Are these cultural issues? Is there some sort of message going out within the community?" she said.

Ms Champion said the "far right" would attack her comments for "not doing enough" and the "floppy left" would call her racist.

"This isn't racist, this is child protection," said the MP for Rotherham, where at least 1,400 children were found to have been exploited between 1997 and 2013.

The issue was not being dealt with because "people are more afraid to be called a racist than they are afraid to be wrong about calling out child abuse", Ms Champion said.

Stripping them of British nationality will be a good start. Once their time is served, they can be escorted to a departure point for a destination of their choice.

And if they want to raise human rights issues, then they should be reminded why such action is being taken.

I'm sure prison will mete out its own form of punishment for these vile excuses of mankind.

I wonder how the previous group(s) of Asian abusers have been treated in prison?

Nice thought. You get what you give. Hopefully a masonry drill "back there".
