America's Cup

NZ just beat the American team funded by billionaire Larry Ellison 6-1. They won with superior technology, boat speed and skill. Despite the huge disparity in budgets. Ellision must be mightily pissed off haha! The Kiwis sailed with grace and humility and ignored all the garbage coming their way from the yanks. Well done Kiwis! Now the cup returns to Auckland where I'm sure the next cup will be conducted with fair rules to all, unlike those the yanks concocted in their favour to give them an unfair advantage before the regatta even began.....
Brilliant stuff!

Some fantastic racing during the round robin stages. Great result for the Kiwis.
Incredible to watch a fifteen tonne boat foiling at 30-40 kts on what appear at first glance to be a couple of flimsy little sticks!

I watched a few minutes but after the AC70s last time the AC45s look a bit like dinghies. Bit like watching the F1 drivers in Ford Escorts

I remember years ago at my local port asking the crew where did their 130m cruise ship come from? "It's not a cruise ship, it's a private yacht" came the reply.

Love it.
The Auld Mug back in Auckland.
Stick that where it don't shine Dennis.
Gemma - google apparent wind.
Nothing more uncanny than hanging off a trapeze on a skiff like a 29er, with the spinny out and going faster than the breeze.
Young Tartare and I were out on the PowerBoat on Sydney Harbour a month or two ago on a breezy Saturday.
We were chasing an AC foiling cat in heavy chop.
We have a 135hp outboard and the lad had our boat at 23 knots on the GPS - we were getting smashed and couldn't go any faster.
The AC took off like we were standing still - I reckon he blew through 30 knots plus in about 10 secs - and kept accelerating.
Amazing things.
