EUGENICS

Have recently been reading about Margaret Sanger and the Eugenics movement in the USA and other countries.

I have mixed thoughts on the underlying premise of eugenics, but is interesting as a theory to improve the human race.

I note that Alexander Graham Bell was a proponent.

It's a different approach to cleaning out the gene pool than the Darwin Awards, which funnily enough was directly below your thread when I opened the page.
At the time, these forward thinking folks thought they had the better idea. Over time it has lost its shine.
I think part of the problem with the approach Sanger and company used was to look a people as the subjects of an experiment or a process, and not as human beings who might be their neighbors. That's a form of dehumanization. Once you start doing that it can lead to some dark places.

I popped out for a late shop for milk etc. Standing at the Coop checkout was a young mum . . . I think. She was still young enough to be strong, and she needed to be because she must have weighed in at 250 lbs. The kids or young siblings were already overweight.

After the girl/woman had finished coughing over the counter, she unpacked a large cake and proceeded to stuff in her face. Well, most of it. The remainder fell upon the horizontal vastness of her chest.

She'd obviously taken a degree course in Gor-Blimy which she demonstrated to everyone within 50 yards, which was probably a good thing as the sprayed cake-crumbs would not be added to the burden she put upon her digestive system.

Eugenics? Sometimes I'd like to have people's mouths filled with quick drying cement - after they've been turned down to size on a lathe.

Worthwhile remembering we all have an unbroken line of descendancy going back to the first amoeba (or whatever it was). So each and everyone of us is at the peak of an unbroken chain of evolutionary breeding. Makes you wonder sometimes...

Prescott Bush, Adolph Hitler's moneyman in America, was an ardent supporter of "racial hygiene" and other aspects of eugenics.

Darwin's theory shows that there are awful lot of dead ends at this end of that chain. One sees them in the supermarket at any time of day or night. They usually wear sporting clothes such as jogging pants, quite implausibly, and have a highly oblate spheroidal torso atop a spherical arse. They are usually slumped over the handlebars of a trolley filled with sugary and fatty things.

Gouli, that is one of the problems with Darwin's theory - the amoeba hadn't enough genetic material to carry all of the worlds genome.

Eugenics appeals to me, if one looks at the lowering of IQ levels in northern European countries, since the influx of other nationalities there seems to be proof that some are lesser than others.

Is this topic about those who spend a lot of their spare time at the sperm bank.

Do they have a [email protected] of the month award in those places?

Aren't we already interfering with evolution anyway?

We're allowing over-weight people to survive, because of the social and health care we provide, so they will breed and produce more over-weight people.

We're allowing those who could not afford to have families, because they are unable to work at a level where they can earn enough money, to breed, because the state pays for them to do so.

Overall, we've already skewed the demographic (at least here in the UK) quite a bit. It seems to me that we have created an odd society where the poor, and arguably less intelligent, are breeding like billy-ho, and the more intelligent amongst our society seem to be limiting their family sizes, or forgoing having children at all, whilst they seek to earn enough to have a decent standard of living and avoid being on benefits.

Add in that medical treatment means that many who would have died young, so living in accordance with natural selection, are now surviving thanks to medical intervention, and I think we can throw Darwinism out of the window now, as applying to the human race here.

Note that this is mainly just observation, not a rant in support of eugenics, or against social and health care.

Get rid of the NHS. Ban spectacles and contact lenses
Ban all drugs except pain killers and anti biotic for accidents.
And the human race will cease devolving physically and commence evolving again.
No need for any fancy studies and breeding programs ..

Of course if the brainiacs in charge happen to,wear glasses or have migraines they may not like, the idea

I think you would be back quickly into medieval time in terms of life expectency.

Survival of the fittest. No one said eugenics was a friendly sport. At least this way all the proponents get to play as well.

The day after one group of people is given the legal right to off other, law abiding citizens, one or more of them will be planning to use the law for their own gain. It's a shit idea.
