The Grand Tour

I know there is an old Top Gear thread running but this show needs a new thread.
I have just finished watching it and it was brilliant, the opening sequence was magical the long awaited showdown between the McLaren P1 the Porsche 918 and La Ferrari was always going to be the first feature and it didn't disappoint. At the end of the show I turned to my son and said Top Gear is back.

Did the closing credits include the caption:

"No incompetent assistant producers were hurt in the making of this film"?

No, but it did have "written by".

It was interesting that in the BBC interview he did a couple of days ago the moment he came nearest to contempt was when he was asked what he thought of the current Top Gear and why it was having problems.

"Have a look at the credits", he said, "cameramen, soundmen, bags - but no written by - as if it could just happen. The writing is everything".

And it a recorded fact that he used to be awake most nights for the old show writing and rewriting the script before every episode - down to every aside and "ad-lib" spontaneous comment.

What do you mean by 'incompetent PDR1?

It was hardly his fault that the presenters turned up late after the kitchen had closed.

Sallyann, I believe PDR was eluding to the monstrous clanger dropped by the BBC, by winning a PC battle, in eventually claiming JC's scalp, but loosing the war in spectacular fashion.

TG versus GT was not a battle, it turned out to be a rout, with no prisoners taken.

I thought it was awful. Heavily scripted, revealed by the wooden performances of all three. Clarkson in overly arrogant mode, hysterical cackling by the little one, and James giving the impression that he wished he wasn't there. The much-hailed 'tent' - I don't think so! The American - oh dear. And the faked death of some celebrities - crass.

A huge fan of Top Gear, I'll give it one or two more episodes - but not with any optimism at present.

Watched The Grand Tour, top gear on steroids, excellent though some was a bit laboured, drifting drifting and more bloody drifting.... And the death scenes, one was funny, two was funny, but the third was just trying to hard and ruined the idea.

The reason for the lateness was due to competence shortfalls on the part of said assistant producer, which he compounded by failing to ensure that there would still be adequate victuallage available at the destination (even though he was specifically tasked with doing so).

Thumping him was an unacceptable disciplinary process under current nanny-state employment laws - he should have been stripped and suspended upside-down from the roof of the outside toilet block with his head in a toilet bowl. That's the way we trained people out of this sort of negligence at school, and it was very effective...

PDR, according to the press reports Clarkson was late at the venue because he chose to stop for refreshments on the way. He then lost his temper because the dining room wasn't kept open specially for him until such time as he chose to arrive. Do you know something different?

It's out on the internet if you look.
Bet they are quite happy for the first episode to be free, nothing like free advertising, But...
Load of rubbish.
Lame jokes to keep the yanks happy.
Lame jokes to keep the Brits happy, mentioned Gypos.
In the tent just seemed like a time stretcher.
They mention fat bum Vordermann, and cut to some vid of her probably filmed back in UK,, due lack of audience around her.
God knows who the American celebs were falling out of planes, driving cars, etc.
Just get on with the car antics and be done.
What's the rubbish track at Wroughton?
Looks like it was last used for testing Robin 3 wheelers.
Seen via a torrent.
Glad I didn't pay to see.
Clarkson same age as me and looks 10 years older, depresses me.
Still think it's had it's day and in SUHD they all look rough, even bleary eyed midget Hammond, have met him, like a ten year old, well was when I met him.
