Planet Rock Covers Afternoon

Just a heads-up for anyone interested; Planet Rock is having an afternoon (1200hrs till 1800hrs BST) playing nothing but cover versions.

Some great stuff there....thanks everyone. Particularly liked Prince's version of 'Case Of You'

For my palette, covers don't get much better than this one:

'Iron And Wine' cover of 'This Must Be The Place' by 'Talking Heads'

Not an exact cover, but the German version of "walk like an Egyptian" by the Ärtze.

There is an American popular beat combo that go by the name of "Hayseed Dixie", who have released a number of albums of covers which started with AC/DC, but have expanded to cover Led Zep, Queen, Motorhead, Black Sabbath, all performed in a "Hillbilly" style.

Entertaining if nothing else...

Wardie:

There is also a very good version by Disturbed.

Ogre:

I believe they were recently in the UK. Seem to remember them being mentioned on Planet Rock (my source of all wisdom as may have become obvious).
Edit: Actually appearing at the Ramblin Man Fair late July.

COVERS

Billy Paul, who has recently left us, did a cover of Eltons My Song, which at the time I didn't rate much, but it reminds me of the after pubs discos 1972/5 I frequented, and I've never heard it mentioned after his death, a good track!

Shouldn't that be YOUR Song, fishy?

Just tried the Billy Paul version - not one of his finest.

Stevie Ray Vaughans version of Hendrix 'Voodoo Chile' - if you thought only Hendrix could play it you will be amazed.

What a fascinating range of opinions

My 2 all time favourites have already been 'covered' as it were..

Mrs. Robinson - The Lemonheads (originally by Simon & Garfunkel)
Whisky in the Jar - Metallica (Originally by The Dubliners)

And a few I've not seen mentioned:-
Muse - Feeling Good (Originally by Nina Simone)
99 Red Ballons - Goldfinger (Originally by Nena)
Brown Eyed Girl - Reel Big Fish (Originally by Van Morrison)
Take on me - Reel Big Fish (Originally by A-Ha)

Might not be to everyone's tastes but have a listen before casting your aspersions
