Can't wait for Alien 23 where Ripley is regenerated from a toenail clipping....

1 & 2 were good movies - after that...well it became a bit like Jaws 3 & 4 (yawn)

Yes, the first two were both good - the second was sufficiently different and with its own unanswered questions that it stood well in its own right.

Beware of suspended ceilings!

Voice of Computer: Negative, there is no replacement Beryllium Sphere on board.

Gwen DeMarco: [to crew] No, there is no replacement Beryllium Sphere on board.

Tommy Webber: You know, that is really getting annoying!

Gwen DeMarco: [shouts] Look! I have one job on this lousy ship, it's *stupid*, but I'm gonna do it! Okay?

Tommy Webber: Sure, no problem.

The thing that always annoys me about alien films is that the creatures never seem to be capable of building anything, especially a spaceship.

My test is to look at the fingers and if they could never be flexible enough to turn an M6 nut onto a bolt then the special effects guys have messed up.

How coud those ET things have built anything?

Bushfiva.

I like it when she's going to go through the flaming chompers near the end... "Well F**K that!"

Apologies for thread drift but the the 1980's movie 'The Thing' with Kurt Russell was pretty scary too

The Alien was created by the Aliens who created us, as a means to wipe us out, they apprently realizing they dropped a clanger in letting us loose on the universe, twer they who built the space ships, see Prometheus.

And I will be forever grateful that they did - because otherwise I would never have seen Sigourney Weaver in that tee-shirt and little white knickers.

Ah, I see. So, the Alien isnt too fussy about who or what it eats.

Thanks for explaining Prometheus as well, I found the whole storyline a bit confusing.

I think it was in the second film, Aliens, where the queen had all those live people stuck on the wall ready for its babies to eat when they hatched!!! Eeeuoooow!!

I love both movies 1 and 2 for different reasons, but was greatly disappointed by all the rest. Prometheus I didn't find too bad, but nothing matched those early couple of flicks.

An often quoted line in our house:

Hicks: [pause] Seventeen days.
Hudson: Seventeen days? Hey man, I don't wanna rain on your parade, but we're not gonna last seventeen hours!

In the book, Ripley finds the captain of the Nostromo stuck to the wall like that in Alien. I think the scene was filmed, but cut from the movie.

On the quotes theme,

Hudson. "Hey Vasquez, have you ever been mistaken for a man?"

Vasquez. "No, have you?"

I'd forgotten about that one, Dan Gerous. It's a superb line; I've always wanted an opportunity to use it myself as it's such a brilliant put down. Mind you, I suppose I should be reasonably grateful that I've not yet been mistaken for a man!

Very scary film when I first saw it as a yoof, even more disturbing is the work of H R Giger, who designed the creature for the first film - he lived in Gruyere, Switzerland where there is/was a Giger museum with lots of weird creations and illustrations, google him and be afraid!
Sleep tight.....

Well not sure. I saw it at the Grumman Chinese theatre or whatever it was in Hollywood in 1979 when it came out. I thought it was just a transposed haunted house story.

Alien: A great horror movie set in space.

Aliens: A great action movie set in space.

Alien 3 and up: Should never have been made.

Great Sci-Fi movies:
2001
2010
Blade Runner
Terminator 1 and 2 (they should have stopped right there)
The Matrix (shouldn't have made any sequels)
District 9
Star Trek 2
Back to the Future (the whole trilogy was excellent)
Planet of the Apes (original)
Mad Max
Road Warrior (should have stopped there)
Predator
Star Wars (the original)
They Live
Inception

As a partial list.
