Think that freedom of speech exists in Britain?

Think again.

However many times I read it, I can't see how by even the most twisted logic the tweet could possibly be construed as inciting hatred.

My immediate reaction is that it’s an overreaction, and that a telling off and some advice as to his future conduct would have been more appropriate. But I do note that the story refers to “other statements on social media” made by the same person. So who knows what else he said. Perhaps it’s best to wait for the full story.

If ever there was a sure way to incite racial hatred it is this.

PC in the UK is out of control. You are about to give control of your country over. Have a nice time. ( it makes me so sad).

Why confront anybody about it though? It is not the fault of the woman in Croydon - What can she do? Maybe he should have been done for harrassment rather than his tweet.

Don't call them 'illegal immigrants', says Europe human rights commissioner - Telegraph

This is the most ridiculous statement from the EU ! Soon you will be arrested for calling illegal immigrants illegal immigrants as that has been deemed discrimination
So people who climb into the back of lorries to illegally enter the UK cannot be called illegal immigrants as it make them out to be criminals?

The UK has been ordered to comply with this new ruling by our masters in Brussels

From now you will have to refer to illegal immigrants as irregular immigrants no wonder we are in the mess we are in

Vote IN IN IN for more of this

I was a bit surprised when I read this story and think that based on the info in the article, if I was dealing with it I would not have arrested the suspect but gone for a voluntary interview before seeking a decision, although even then I would be questioning why the police were treating the complaint seriously. Personally I can't see anything in the tweet which was inciting anything. I'd sum it up as man asks woman a question and doesn't like the reply, whoopy do.

You won't, and I'm worried.

I don't get it? I enjoy biting the heads off jelly babies first but that's diversifying from my reply.

Picking up my paper yesterday I saw that story in "The Star". Turned to the Easter egg display, and three I picked up at random all had "Easter Egg or the word "Easter" on them

Load of nonsense!

Rare, but we actually share the same view here.

That said, free speech is alive and well in the UK.

Put it this way. Allegedly, said tweeter walks up to a complete and innocent stranger, asks her a provocative question for no reason other than the lady was Muslim, and then proceeds to offer the world his "inspired" thoughts....

That in itself is provocative enough and even more so in the emotional aftermath of Brussels.

The headline and report were both tantalising enough to elicit attention....and for those suffering from thinking anorexia, it duly worked.

What we don't know, as alluded to, is what else may have been said / tweeted or his background and history. Therein may well lie the answer as to why the police took the action they did.

Apparently since being taken over by some mega US corporation the recipe for cream eggs has been cheapened and they now taste awful. My guess is they'll still sell as before!

Better to walk up to a complete stranger and ask for an explanation of Brussels than to blow them up or shoot them. This all seems to be getting out of proportion. The BBC seem to be of the opinion that the villains are Trump and Farage for not toeing the PC line.

As I have said before my concern is that Islam is now the enemy of everything that is socially liberal.

Any non-national in the UK is, perforce, a visitor or comes under some other provision of the Rules. Visits only last 6 months, maximum, according to the Immigration Rules...after that, if they have no permission to enter or remain...then they are, self evidently, an illegal immigrant. Anyone arriving clandestinely will be an illegal immigrant.
Since the Immigration Service will have no record of their arrival, how many of them there are is anyone's guess....

Freedom of speech exists if you inciting hatred against the general population rather than minorities. Call for jihad or the murder of soldiers and you are well within your rights, but make the slightest criticism of any minority religion or ethnic group and the law will come down on you like a ton of bricks.

I haven't bought Cadbury's for years now. In Australia, there is the 'halal scam', which has recently made the media.
Some manufacturers, including Cadbury's, pay inflated fees for 'halal' certification of their products and pass the cost on to consumers. Lindt, whose Sydney cafe was the scene of a violent muslim siege where the cafe manager and a pregnant woman were killed, don't pay the halal tax. And their chocolate is far better.
