The good captain has been unwell for some time, Rotty ... he does manage to post now and then and we all miss him like mad of course. He had a pretty serious operation some

oh no ... I just checked his face-book page to check the date of the operation and have discovered that, sadly, Tony died just a month ago. It seems I'm the bearer of the worst possible news ... here's a link to his page:- https://www.facebook.com/tony.draper.773

'scuse me while I go and get my tissues.

This from his sister, Sylvia ...

Thank you all for the birthday greetings for yesterday. Sadly I also received the not unexpected news that my brother Tony Draper had passed away that morning. Tony was undoubtedly the brightest of us with a sharp enquiring mind. Articulate and strong willed he had many Facebook friends around the world who called him 'Captain'. He was also a gifted natural artist and an avid reader, introducing me at an early age to the magic of sci-fi/fantasy books. He once wrote a short story in the style of Spike Milligan that had us all crying with laughter. When he wasn't playing the (self taught) guitar he was studying and photographing the stars or delving into the history of his home town Gateshead.
You have left a big hole in the hearts of those who loved you my brother Anthony Hugh Draper.

His first ever TRAB post ... the one that started this all off on 6th June 2003 ...

Just got back from the park, it was overcast but the sun has come out now.
My beans and lettuces are doing well.
Think I will make some tea.

PS, Somebody dropped a full pint bottle of milk in my street earlier today, it broke of course.

And his very last one on 28th August last year (2018)

Afternoon peeps, sorry for my long absence, beeb back in hospital, one has taken a vow to avoid that place as they keep removing bits of me, any way recovering slowly
and getting back on my foot so to speak, speak to you all again when my head works better.
take care
tony.

Yes, gupta ... a bloody big, black cloud.

Damn the torpedoes I knew something was off... tried to log in last month but I'd lost my password, then I lost the password at the place where the lost password replacement went...

Swab the decks and paint the wheelhouse. Direct three barrels of rum and five of Beer to be hauled onboard. Collar the cook's boys and have 'em stand sharp to ready a fine hog and ten chickens for the fire, and be quick about it or they'll catch hell.

Lower all flags to half mast and ffs clean up the deckhouse cabin for the parson. I don't even want to know *what's* been going on in there.

And set a course for Kraken waters. Full sheets.

I can't find a picture of the "Red Duster" flying at half mast ... but we can pretend that this one is.

Although I started this episode of Tony's thread, it was only because he was (temporarily) indisposed.

Tony will be sorely missed of course.
I trust he had a peaceful departure.

RIP Admiral.

Will in due course locate a bottle of a really good Barossa Shiraz and raise a glass or three in quiet contemplation.

Smooth seas, Sir.

Be happy to join you in raising a glass, rotty ... I rarely drink but this is one of those times when it's appropriate to remember the FSL in the proper, time-approved manner.

Can't add much that hasn't been said. To say he was a "One-Off" doesn't go halfway there. One of the funniest, if not THE funniest posters on PPRuNe. He and Gainesy were a joy to read.

All the best Drapes, been an education for me.
