I see a long-lost has appeared in a place that must not be mentioned.

Is it really only 40 years since these Public Information Films were being shown?

9:24 onwards in that film is Newcastle Civic Centre - I can't recall the guy's name - Kent Walton? No Shaw Taylor!

Shaw Taylor was replaced by Jimmy Savile for the Clunk Click adverts.

Shaw Taylor died in March this year - aged 90.

Kent Walton used to commentate on the wrestling, in the days when it was real combat

FRIDAY !!
I knew it would be back again.

It's getting colder.
The brass monkeys are not going to be happy this weekend.

Looking at that clip of Public Information films posted by Ricardian got me
wondering as to when the police force stopped looking like somebody you
could approach for help into the para-military looking thugs that we have now.

Learned a interesting factoid yesterday, watching one of the excellent documentaries in the American Experience series about the plague of TB which effected America in the 19th and early 20th century as much as it did Europe.
In America for much of that period men wore unfeasable large silly beards, vast amounts of facial hair being almost compulsary then and Ladies wore long skirts that trailed in the dirt behind em thus hiding their best asset ie their ankles.
When it was discovered that TB was caused by a small critter called a Germ that lurked everywhere in the environment and could be easily picked up the chaps all started shaving off their daft beards which could almost be classed as landscape so said germs would have nowhere to lurk and the Ladies raised their hemlines out of the dirt of the street also to avoid picking up critters from the ground.
Thus is fashion sometimes driven by practical logic and not by a bunch of strange chaps with squeaky voices in Paris.

I have perused the weather forecast for the immediate future, and, whilst it is predicting low temperatures for the weekend, the following week looks to be returning to average 'cool' rather than remaining 'freezing'.

Hoolilalia!

Having a self-imposed day of invalidity, after a disturbed night ending with sleep apnoea (a disturbing event which threatened to be fatal - or so it seemed at the time) and a general feeling of 'unwell' (no doubt caused by the loss of sleep).

Sleep apnoea only occurs rarely (thank God), but it is most un-nerving when I cannot draw breath and fear asphyxiation . . .

Laser Maybe this will help in future?

Shameless plug for one of my rellies. Just tip your money in and get it converted. Wish I'd invested right at the beginning

Presently wet and 9C here. Temp dropping to 2C on Monday before going back up to 10 by next Friday.

Don't you have a mask G-CPTN? it makes an enormous difference. I was Lucky, when my pension was finalised and therre was no risk of being forced back to the treadmill it ceased to be a problem. All stress related

I'm holding the hot weather to ransom until you personally deliver the coolth back here you little Iberian stirrer. Now get a move on or I'm going to have to deal with 36 degrees C for the next two days. This is going to make me unhappy.

Bluey , polite as always. I think you left a word out between Iberian and stirrer - and I'm sure it wasn't pot

Not here it doesn't. Complain to the doc about sleep disorders or afternoon fatigue and you will be referred to the pneumologue in a flash, who will have you tubed up for an overnight test in no time. Then it's hello to the dreaded sleeping mask - as of a fortnight ago, we have a his'n'hers, one on either side of the bed.

This morning is only the second time that I have felt 'life-threatened' (inability to breathe).
The previous occasion was several months ago - maybe even a year . . .

What was alarming was that I was 'awake' but unable to draw breath.
It was as if someone was throttling me.

I cannot be certain how long this condition lasted, but I was extremely distressed by the time I managed to be able to breathe normally, so much so that I was determined to stay awake.

Only now am I considering risking sleeping tonight.
