Reddo.
For those of you not able to be there The last Display Flight of the Vulcan Sadly you won't get even the slightest idea of the power ad sound of the engines.

Morning all.

Back to blue skies, though temperatures now in mid 20s.

Is Woody now homeless? His location has been eradicated.

Well done indeed, Mrs. Kwin. As of approx. 17.30 UK time she will become the longest-reigning monarch, overtaking her great great grandmother, Queen Victoria.

So said DX Wombat yesterday; I wasn't able to get to Ayr to see the last display flight of XH558, but I was happy to be at the Eastbourne Airshow on the 15th August to see the old girl's thunderous performance over the sea on a beautifully warm sunny day. And even more pleased to encounter and chat with the original Avro test pilot Tony Blackman in the seafront arena, at a book signing stall. (Yes, I bought one of his books!)

He was keen to see the scheduled Vulcan display himself, not least because he carried out its first test flight on the production schedule in June 1960, and actually delivered XH558 to RAF Waddington on 1st July 1960, so he had a strong personal interest to declare.

I was highly chuffed, and now have a signed and dedicated copy of his autobiography for my library.

You lucky person 603 It really was a great day and to have the Vulcan in a vertical climb, engines screaming at full throttle right in front of me is something I'm not likely to forget. It also had the advantage of clearing the beach of some rather mischievous little boys who went running back to mummy. I shall try to return for next year's event even though the Vulcan won't be there.
At the moment I'm waiting for yet another phone call regarding the repairs to my house. A very kind lady at one of the firms involved decided that she would deal with the Insurance company as she knows what they were told by the surveyor and has the emails to prove it. I'm also waiting to hear from the builders who rang earlier when I was cooking so was unable to talk. Their young man said he would ring back. Time will tell.

Not a Vulcan but a Victor; one of them, inbound Radlett, flew right through the Luton circuit. I scared him off with my mighty Tri-Pacer but was deaf for about a week when he climbed out

A Tri-Pacer, now there's an aeroplane from my yoof I would gladly spot again.

Military was of no interest, you couldn't get on the aerodromes to see them close up, they were usually painfully noisy and mainly Ian Allen didn't publish a book where you could underline them when you saw them.

Didn't stop a fellow controller getting arrested at Chièvres and spending six months in a Belgian prison on espionage charges

Allo peeps. One has been a busy bunny in furrin parts for a couple of months, but house husbandry is again the order of the day. Various overseas visitors have gone back home, but we have a dozen or so folks coming for a meal on Sunday (it was HER idea). Apologies to anyone whose celebration or grief I have missed, and upon which I have failed to comment. MrsP, despite saying she never wanted to see another curry as long as she lived, has relented and I'm now happily making lots of different Sri Lankan dishes. Delish. If anyone wants a link to recipes, then drop me a PM.

Popping into court tomorrow to see some early 17th century books which I sent off for restoration before I retired. Tiny wee books of old Scots law which I had rebound in calf leather and with gold tooling on the spines. Bibliophilic ppruners would like them. They were lying in bits on a shelf when I found them, fit for nothing, so the restoration hasn't reduced their value.
