Is Donald (Trump) right (or even correct)?

Is Donald just trying to win votes from the Right Wing voters in the US or does he have a valid point?

Secondly, should he be banned from entering the UK?

(Not that these issues are likely to be in any way controversial or kick-off any discussion here on JB...................)

Before barring EVERY muslim from going to the US, don't you think there are lots of othr things they could/should do first?

By the way - his Wall idea, I don't get it why he's only for building one on the Southern border. Has he forgotten the Jihadis can come in from the North too?
Probably more of them up there already!

Trump is the ultimate example of why we defend the 1st Amendment so vigorously. No matter how stupid, bigoted, asinine, infantile, incendiary, racist, myopic, untrue, inflammatory or just plain wrong your free speech is, it's always free speech. Loyal American Citizens of every or no religious affinity will defend your right to be an arsewipe.

Maybe some of you would like to consider this.

My daughter and her partner are planning a big holiday next year. The USA was one of the possibilities, but now they are re-considering. The reason? Daughter's partner is a Muslim. No matter that he is a solicitor working for the UK Department of Justice, Mr Trump still thinks he is a dangerous undesirable, and wouldn't let him in. Obviously that ban is not going to happen, but looking at some of the baying rednecks cheering his moronic remarks to the echo, I'm not sure they would be be happy to visit the US now anyway, as they would be fearful of the sort of welcome they might get.

Tony and Argonautical - I'm not a lefty fluffy, and my knickers are totally untwisted, but I entirely agree with the UK media on this. Neither is Boris (by any stretch of the imagination) and I like his remark that he would be fearful of going to New York in case he bumped into Trump.

There was internment of Japanese Americans in WW2.
Which was one of the most shameful episodes in American history.

If you are in NY, go watch this:

Allegiance

George Takai, known as Capt Sulu in Star Treck, was one of the interned as a kid. So where many other Americans, just because they happened to be of Japanese ancestry.

What Trump is proposing is nothing short of balant populism. He is absolutely unacceptable as a politician. With a guy like this, America would soon be totally isolated in the world and those who hated her would point fingers and say, see, we told you so.

America needs a president who unites the country in the fight against IS and other threats. The real threats, not the imagined ones.

When did anti-semitism morph from meaning anti-jewish to become anti-arab?

TTN: I don't really see how your family relationships bear onto US immigration policies.

I'm still waiting for someone to point out something "wrong" with what Trump said -- other than that some folks feelings are hurt.

Some things are just not allowed to be said in polite (ie PC) company. Trump has gone and said one such thing out loud. Anybody with a voice on the telly and/or a desire to cop a vote sometime soon is outwardly deriding him- they must (they feel). Don't think for one second, that many of those PC pollies, along with millions of ordinary Americans (and others) don't agree with him. In my opinion.

OP- no he isn't!

The largest population of Muslims are in Indonesia, next is India then Pakistan and Bangladesh. Nigeria is next, still with a greater number of Muslims than Egypt. No other Middle East country, other than Iran (and definitions vary) is in the top 10.

And ... do you want to conclude that observation with a point?

Well obgraham I am puzzled as to why Mr Trump would seek to deny a British born UK citizen, a law officer with zero criminal convictions entry into the United States on the grounds that he is a Muslim. That is how my family relationships bear onto US immigration policies.
