US Military men thwart terrorist attack on French train.

the passengers who overpowered the suspect were US Marines who had heard the man loading a weapon in a toilet cubicle and confronted him when he came out.
Mr Cazeneuve said they were "particularly courageous and showed great bravery in very difficult circumstances", adding: "Without their composure we could have been confronted with a terrible incident."
The interior minister praised the Americans, one of whom was seriously injured,
One of the two people seriously hurt had a gunshot wound, the other a knife wound.
The weapons were said to include a Kalashnikov, a knife, an automatic pistol and cartridges.

They deserve much credit...

I bang on about the Americans occasionally, and sometimes smile at the jibes and now two of them avert an almost certain massacre!
Really well done.

Time for airport type screening on railways?
This was bad but could have been far, far worse.

There are really no words to adequately express the admiration for the character and devotion to duty of those Marines.

Unless the regulations have changed, they will not be allowed to accept money or foreign decorations for their valor, and if the traditions of the service endure, the injured will probably get a their asses chewed for forgetting to duck...

So I devoutly hope these fine soldiers and their peers will not have to buy a beer anytime soon on my continent!

As for me, I'll will drink tonight in honor of all men of courage, and mentally piss on the unfit leaders who so callously expend the lives of these same men.

How US soldiers stopped train gunman

The gunman's AK jammed and he didn't know how to clear it,apparently. From what little I know of AK's,they don't jam very often,so that's incredibly fortunate.

The terrorist, from Morocco, had lived in Spain until 2014, then moved to France.

He was reported to the French by the Spanish anti-terrorist authorities and is believed to have recently returned from Syria.

American thugs mug peace-loving Moroccan

A pair of Americans started trouble on a French train by dispossessing a Moroccan passenger of some of his belongings, according to one of our most reliable correspondents, with further details to follow.

Well done to those lads, we need plenty more like them.

My dad was recently the victim of an attempted mugging in Morocco. He was confronted by a teenager with a knife who demanded money. As soon as the blade was out, my old man delivered a penalty kick to his knackers and dropped the little scrote where he stood. Not bad for a chap in his 80's, I'm not so sure I would have done the same.

Marines?

Small point of order.

One inactive soldier from the Oregon National Guard, one from the USAF, and one student.

Regardless of which service they are from though, well done

From the photos, the heroes haircuts didn't look regulation Marine, "high and tight".

Associated Press have said named the injured American as Spencer Stone from Sacramento, who was travelling with Mr Sadler and Mr Skarlatos.
Mr Sadler gave a graffic description of what happened:

We heard a gunshot, and we heard glass breaking behind us, and saw a train employee sprint past us down the aisle.
They then saw the gunman entering the carriage with an automatic rifle.
As he was cocking it to shoot it, Alek just yells, 'Spencer, go!' And Spencer runs down the aisle, Spencer makes first contact, he tackles the guy, Alek wrestles the gun away from him, and the gunman pulls out a box cutter and slices Spencer a few times. And the three of us beat him until he was unconscious.

Just to add my congratulations and respect for these men, whatever branch of the service they are in.

Time for airport type screening on the railways?
I sincerely hope not. One reason why medium haul high speed trains have been kicking the airline industry's backside in Europe is that because by the time you factor in all the messing round at airports, trains are frequently faster, and certainly less hassle.

There will be many, including some here, who will blame the US for creating the atmosphere that leads these type of events.
