Well, there are just two of us, both with short hair, and my wife washes her hair three or four times a week - me every day. But I've noticed recently there are almost NO young ladies (that is under 25 or so) that have short hair.

I had to teach my wife it is much quicker (and cheaper, but that bit unsaid) to fill up the sink by putting the plug in, turning the hot water tap full on (and not to stand there with your finger in the stream waiting for just the right temperature) and letting the initial cold water in the pipes mix with the hot water coming from the boiler. Of course we have mixer taps, something that appears to be illegal or a sin from where she comes from (UK).

ok, guys, but still - why black balls? Would white(ish) get dirty? One would think black gets hot in the sun and heats water (and more evaporation)?

possibles:

1. The vendor might be into Black Pride, and surf'in it.

2. Black things - intended for long use and no cleaning - never look as skuzzy
after long-time passing as would pristine white or most other colors.

3. Decades of swimming in air have taught me that subtleties and surprises of the medium often come unseen and unexpected. The actual mechanism of the product is not described, so conveyor-belt logic would seem potentially applicable:

My best guess is that the balls create a thermal-plus-mass boundary layer at and just above the water's surface that reduces intermixing of ambient air (in the wide range of natural conditions) from active mixing with air near the water's surface, the location where h2o molecules can be stripped away by zephyrs and drafts, with high evaporative losses as the effect.

The same water-laden near-surface boundary layer might act as a coating that "makes" its own greenhouse effects right near the surface, and keeps them there as well.

The black color is for UV protection of the balls and keep them from becoming brittle and breaking and then sinking.

The balls are trapped air which is a good insulation.
Apparently they have studied the application to the point that the insulating value of the trapped air more than offsets the evaporation from splashes on the black warmer surface of the balls.

Transferring the state of water to vapor removes 970 BTU per pound of water.
I would wonder if the water temperature of the reservoir will increase due to the lack of evaporation and black balls insulating.
At some point the water temperature gets too warm to dissolve enough O to support fish.

Yeah, I think they are an insulating layer which introduces a lag in the temperature rate of increase in the water. That way the peak temperature over the day is lower and they cool back down at night. The rate of evaporation I suspect is a strong function if temp so the holding down of the Max offsets the fact that the average temperature overnight is higher.

Now the Land of Fruits, Nuts and Balls. Jerry Brown and Cali deserve each other. Saw it off and wish good riddance.

GF

Except for San Diego Cty and parts north of the Golden Gate, farther is better here.

Nobody Deserves Gov Jerry Brown & crew. California's own little mafia. Still Catholic, still wanting to be Saints and Conquistadores, still just predators on the earnest folk who live and die with life goals frustrated by their crimes, lost in the ashes of their criminal messianic lies and frauds.

Many of my dearest friends are Catholic and I love, respect, enjoy and admire the profoundly sensitive and wise quality of their civilized contributions in the world of day to day.

The Brown clan - now some 60 years into California rule - are just highly effective blackmailers and predatory criminals hiding behind the respectability of a great Faith. Crooks are crooks, eh?

We're on a meter and our bill works out at about 11 Imperial gallons a day each.
Our yearly bill for water/sewerage/standing charge is about 140, but there's only the two of us.
