Taliban choose their new leader.

Mullah Akhtar Mansour has been selected to lead the Taliban.

Mullah Omar: Taliban choose deputy Mansour as successor - BBC News

Mansour was minister for civil aviation and tourism in the Taliban's Kabul government years. He was one of the few in the Taliban hierarchy to have more than a very basic education (if any at all).

It was during his time in Kabul that IATA and ICAO were able to open the air routes over Afghanistan and establish basic minimum requirement aviation communications facilities in the country.

From what I remember of the man I suspect this appointment may be good news.

Their interpretation of Islam tends to remove a substantial amount of gloss.

Mansour was minister for civil aviation
John, this is Jet Blast. Are you sure you want to introduce aviation related content?

Was amusing to note that it took two years to confirm that the Mullah Omar was dead. Reminds me of the jokes back when Warren Christopher was our secretary of state: he resembled a zombie as much as a serving cabinet minister.

Cabinet secretary. Yes, right up there with Lurch as far as looks.

Must 'fess up that I don't even know the name of the British minister for aviation, never mind the Afghan one.

Christopher Tugendhat?

Lord Sterling of Zeebrugge?

Nigel Farage's personal pilot?

Group Captain Vorderman?

Section Officer Maggie Harvey?

Bruce Simpson?

Bruce Dickinson?

Eric Brown?

Any other nominations?

Obviously Afghanistan and the Taliban are yesterday's war and of little interest. Such a pity that we are all going to hear about Afghanistan again in the near future.

Well, according to the article the other bloke may have been dead for a few years, so it's merely a rubber stamping of the status quo, meaning any changes in policy would already have been implemented by now.

A rather incredible report from Pakistan says the Taliban have met with Hazara elders who were asking their help against bands of mutant ISIS followers which are active in Afghanistan.

Five years ago they were unable to spot the "Mansour" they were entertaining was not the Mansour they thought he was even though they had photographs of the real one.

What's the bet that within a couple of years, this thread will repeated, as Mansour is eliminated?
The thing is, it won't necessarily be the CIA, Seal Team Six, or a U.S. drone that will be the cause of his demise.
It's just as likely to be another Islamic terrorist who violently disagrees with Mansour, that will be the reason for his demise.

These people only live to constantly perpetrate and promote just two things - hatred-filled murderousness, and intolerance.
