That's OK, I reserve the right to be critical to how any country spend their money including my own. I only gave the above information to show that not every country follow Trump's path.

Not entirely sure why.
Let's get this straight since you keep repeating this.
USA is not spending money on our defence, they're spending money on their own defence and has been doing that since WWII.
Just check Norway's location on the map, then check Russia's location on the map, follow that up with locating all the ice-free Russian ports. Now consider your Russian paranoia and tell me again that you're spending defence money on us because you love us so much.
I take it you are familiar with what kind of installations USA has been spending money here for decades? You should thank us for allowing this to happen. And for continuing to buy your aircrafts and supporting your overseas operations with them.

AM, I think what Westy is simply pointing out, is that if Russia ever took a real liking to those ice-free ports of yours (a la Sevastopol), Norway would put up one nasty fight, but in the end, without American support (i.e. tax dollars) the outcome would be a given. That scenario has been played out before, but by Finland.

And they would still be a loooong way from the US.

There's no need for dispute here. The two are allied in every sense of the word. Throwing around a few internet insults is like sibling rivalry.

No insults, just pointing out facts, and yes, it works two ways. Just why Russia should want to invade us is beyond me, then again imagination is not my forte.

They said the same thing about Germany. Some people never learn.

Why invade?
All they have to do is screw the US. Chip away, interfere, steal, and generally go against. Weaker is the goal. = more powerful Russia. Macho stuff.
Big and tough like ice hole diving.

China? Same thing plus sell, sell, sell, but might have a need to invade somewhere suitable in the somewhat longer term to store and feed the uncontrolled population balloon.

You can spin it all youíd like, the truth however is that your govt sees a threat from Russia. You share a border with Russia. Russia has been provocative in itís actions and words towards Norway. Norway, per your own admission isnít capable of stopping a Russian invasion. Thus US Marines are tasked with helping to defend your nation. The total number likely isnít sufficient to stop Russia but itíll give Vlad pause to consider is the objective worth shedding US blood.

No, not protecting US, if Russian troops took Oslo tomorrow, life goes on in the US. Some folks will take to google to find out exactly where Norway is, or rather was before annexation. Others will notice their retirement accounts have taken a small hit due to market turmoil. This mirroring what happened in the US after Georgia, Crimea and the Ukraine felt Vladís love.

The commitment to protect Norway is a NATO commitment, not a US commitment, as boring as a 70 year-old treaty might be to some people. That said, I haven't checked Twitter today, so the US may no longer be in NATO.

Indeed it is. The recent emphasis on the protection of the border with Russia, at the request of the Norwegian government has fallen largely on US troops and at the expense of US taxpayers.

The NATO structure has outlived its original threat of hoards of Soviet tanks streaming down the Fulda gap. It’s time for a change. Whether it comes to fruition or not, the idea of a euro army is what’s needed. The collective interests of free Europe should be secured by Europe, not NATO with the US inordinately shouldering the burden.

Image TI, that money spend on Euro defense being spent on roads, highways, hospitals, etc in the US.

Obg and WC: I see your still getting your talking points from Moscow. I guess the GRU is keeping you on retainer as they gear up for the 2020 election interference campaign.

After you wished death on the Russian submariners in your gleeful post, you are not to be taken seriously.

Better still, imagine being visited by a intellectually superior race of extra-terrestrials and having to explain our journey through what we laughingly call "civilization".

ET: "So let me get this right, you invented gunpowder, but you mainly use it kill people?"
Earth: "That's right."
ET: "And then you mastered ocean going vessels, but you used then to subjugate indigenous peoples?"
Earth: "That's right."
ET: "So tell me again about the Industrial Revolution, so you invented many things, but mainly discovered better uses for machine guns and artillery?"
Earth: "That's right."
ET: "Can you just go back to the ratio of Defense spending against the Gross Domestic Product for most most industrialized countries again?"
Earth: "But we've always spent that much on killing other people."
ET: "So killing people is always more important the Education, Medical Care, Infrastructure, and protecting the future of your world?"
Earth: "That's right - don't you aliens know anything about civilization."

So I have a solid understanding of your intergalactic work of art there Mr Skywalker, did you personally benefit from your time in the military?

Like most things, it’s about balance and your opus paints only a picture of the point you’re advancing, not an accurate characterization of the advancements civilization has achieved.

Imagine for a moment though, your GDP/defense budget ratio point. If we weren’t treaty bound to defend nations/regions that are capable of defending themselves, the ratio you seek out might be achievable.

WC,

Saw that video. Hard to know whether to laugh or cry. But even Marx would want to punch that twit in the Fidel Castro jacket in the throat.

Even Commies should be embarrassed having someone like that in their midst.
