Nowadays Health and Safety would close the English Channel for a few days.

And it would be the Belgian Navy which took care of the mine.

Greek Merchant Ships were the biggest hazard to navigation in the Channel back then

British captains and engineers couldn't keep up with the ultra efficient Greek crews?

From my father family side (which makes me immensely proud) I probably have some good lads who could save me. His mother comes from one of the most sea-going island in the world so every other person there is practically a merchant sailor. .

And yes I have heard some stories...

I remember one of those mines in my sproghood locality; but where ?
Stamford Park perhaps.

Mostly cloudy this morning and the snow has all but gone.
Off to Loughborough this morning with Mrs HF as she is scheduled to have
her girlie top bits flattened and photographed.
As the mobile unit is in Morrisons car park two birds will be killed with just the single stone.

Morning peeps, another clear blue cold one here,I see a future guvmint will be issues invites for bids to supply paint ball warheads for our Tridents.
One is rather disapointed with the pathetic amount of snow we have had up here thus far,one would like to see one more proper winter hopefully followed by a proper summer before one takes one's dirt nap.

Thanks CPTN, Spud 1 is now an AME with QF studying Engineering and Project Management (2 different courses), Spudette 1 is studying nursing with plans to be a neonatal nurse and Spudette 2 finished school last year and will be studying to become a hair and make up artist, maybe go into television work or magazines.

SDG and I are happily married, just gone 4 years 😊

How have you been?

How have you been?
I am fine and settling down to keep myself occupied with volunteering within my local community - it stops me from getting sedentary.

We have had floods (15th November, 5th/6th December and 26th December) that left the riverbank stacked with debris (it was the highest flood ever recorded, and, possibly, worse than the 'great' 1771 flood - which swept away all the bridges along the whole length of our river except our local bridge).
This time the water rose to within inches of the top of the arches!

We still have pumps removing water from the fields (the embankment was overtopped flooding 45 houses to a depth of five feet).

Oh, and a landslide has dumped 35,000 tons of earth and trees onto the railway line - it will take several weeks before the railway is open to traffic.

Is SDG still driving double-decker buses?

Interesting that the bow on that vessel is 'reverse raked'.

I thought that that was a recent idea?

Most of the pre dreadnaugts seemed to be raked like that think they carried a heafty ram under the bow for dunching enemy vessels.

Here's one we Geordies bashed out for the Brazilians.

Nope no joy.
I think if you type that url into your address thingy and replace those star thingies with the word 'I have a low IQ and haven't figured this out yet' (small case no spaces)it's worth the efford, if I remember correctly PPRuNe dont like urls wi those words in em.
Buggah even that has been sabotaged,I give up.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_cruiser_Gromoboi

"I have designed a new class of warship. I think I shall call it 'pre-dreadnaught', don't ask me why"

I have also learned that dennilfloss is a very rude word
