Good morning all. Stopped raining, when you think things can't gt any worse my roof above the bathroom has sprung a leak. Have to try to get the agent to get someone in tout suite.

So Nigel gets 3 jobs to do.
His, that of the person leaving and training the newbie.

Marvellous.
Not much chance of sleeping then.
God knows when we will get a newbie though. Last time took 8 months!

Would have been happy to see the bin men at 7.30 yesterday. Next job this morning is to phone them to mention that they didn't turn up at all here yesterday.

The Bin men came round the other day flogging their 2016 calendar in exchange for a "donation". I expect the firemen and postie to be along any day soon, looking for their handouts!

Our council people are great with rubbish removal. If you forget to put your wheelie bin out and miss the collection, you can call them and they will send the truck back. Full marks there! I usually put the two wheelies out the night before (as everyone does) and they are collected quite early. We must be very close to the beginning of the run.

Completely agree with that. If you cannot resist the urge to help out, [email protected], remember you are in a very strong position here ... the strongest possible, actually. Make very sure they know that if you do take over someone else's position, you expect to receive that person's pay in addition to your own. If you are determined to work yourself into a hospital bed you may as well get something to show for it.

Good morning all,

foggy here.

We don't even have to put the bins out, they know where they are (not locked) and there are always one or two men 10 minutes ahead of the "convoy" to pull them out into the street, and back afterwards. That's very nice and efficient so nothing to complain.

Don't know how much we have to pay though. Should check our annual council fees, surely not cheap. Payment will be according to garbage weight methinks (automatic scan) but not sure whether our council here has actually introduced this.

Good morning Saturday.
Late up as feeling grotty due to being struck down with man flu.
Nothing that a few cups of tea won't remedy.

As the weather is so awful I'm passing the time researching my late wife's
ancestry. I've just started so have only got to her parents at present.
It appears they hail from Mr D's neck of the wood. At the time of their marriage in 1946 they were both residents of Benwell.
Her father's profession is given as Tea Planter. Didn't know they had tea plantations in Newcastle.
Actually I know he'd gone out to India before the war, joined up at the start of the war, was captured in Singapore and then worked on the Burma railway
prior to being made to work in the mines in Japan.
He witnessed the bomb at Hiroshima going off from afar.

The weather is not to be spoken of.

Are you OK there? Just heard on the radio that your town is on major flood alert and people are being evacuated.
