I think the main (though yet hidden) issue/goal is to disqualify Qatar and change the place of the event. Too many businesses were left unhappy with Qatar as a winner, and it is also not the best place for the players and tourists.

Saudi's will fund what ever campaign is required to disqualify Qatar which means UK will be fully on board as realistically it is the only option if Qatar is disqualified.

Interesting how a "small" war in the Gulf would change FIFA's plan.

Why UK ?? Perhaps USA?

There were 5 candidates in Zurich in 2010. Besides Qatar, there were Australia, Japan, S. Korea and USA. The final voting was to choose from the 2: Qatar and USA.

No doubt, the UK is a much better country for the football world cup than the USA, generally speaking. But the logic would be on the USA side if the sheikhs are kicked out.

Knowing how FIFA works, it probably will be hosted in Azerbaijan.
A World Cup in Qatar is a disgrace, and Platini was a great player in his time, but he will be remembered to be Blatters stooge, the rats are out, shame on these people.

I doubt Qatar will be stripped of the World Cup, however there is still time, and let USA host it instead.
Qatar does not even fulfill the basics of human rights, which is required by FIFA to give a World Cup, yet they still gave it to them.
No doubt Qatar have tried to buy the Champions League with Paris St Germain for years now, just like Dubai / Emirates have been trying to buy it for Manchester City. This are investment toys for super-rich individuals, with large egos.
They are the cancer of football.

Anyone who has visited Qatar will know that there is a lot of sporting activities and events happening there and I am not surprised that they bid for the World Cup. They like their sport.

They have also spent an awful lot of money on infrastructure and stadiums. If the Work Cup was taken away from them, I am sure that they would seek compensation and the amount will bankrupt FIFA (whether that is a good thing is another story). Therefore, I doubt it will happen.

It is quite likely that people's pockets were lined, but if so, it never started with Qatar. It will have gone on for years and no matter who is involved in the future, palms will still be crossed one way or another. It might not be right, but it is the way of the world for most of it.

US have it in 2026 along with their neighbours north and south of the border so that is a no chance. Germany had it on 2006. France 1998.

Australia does not have the facilities for it and during the AFL season as well so not going to happen unless they change the timings.

Country with stadia that can cope and England could do it easily.

Wembley / Twickenham / Amex / St Marys (Southampton) / Bristol / Villa Park / MK Stadium / King Power / Old Trafford / Anfield / Elland Road / St James Park / Stadium of Light / Bet365 (Stoke).................. geographical spread as could easily add in Everton / Man City / Arsenal / Spurs grounds.

Max 2 stadium in any city is the rule.

Aside from our ever present sense of entitlement in this country one reason we dont get world cups is that we have a lot of good grounds so there are no ultra lucrative contracts up for grabs like there are when awarding it to some other countries , Qatar is a bad joke but Russia had a good claim-helped along a bit by Vlad no doubt but in the end they put on one of the best tournaments ever confounding the likes of the Sun and Mail .

With the arrest of Platini today one does have to ask again if FIFA itself is fit for purpose or should be re organised in a way with less opportunities for corruption. As someone who remembers '66 its a shame we will not host one in my lifetime in the modern media era but our record with FIFA mirrors our naivety and perhaps arrogance about the real world anyway .

In terms of stadiums
Spurs
Arsenal
West Ham are all above it in terms of capacity, quality and fan experience.

Plus you need a sterile zone all around the stadium with checkpoint areas and it hasn't got it.

Russia put money into its stadium and infrastructure and was best WC I have attended in terms of Fan experience. Even surpasses Japan which I didn't believe possible in terms of organisation and friendliness.

As for contracts they go to local construction companies not external companys.

England made lots of offers to FIFA delegates but unlike 2012 they just were not big enough.
