Sad that they cannot come up with anything more orginal to force her to say than "I returned voluntarily."

Indeed! All by myself. I had forgotten a few things and thought maybe I would go pick them up...

Missed my fave restaurant.

Not sure about you, but if I had fled that regime I think I would wish to enter a witness protection program rather than having a chin wag on a talk show or appearing on a reality program. Just me mind...

in my read it was family ties that brought her back to the red line and the realization that there would be no more family if she didn't repent.

Presumably it won't apply to U.S. military personnel.

I see young Kim is cutting down on his smoking. He smoking half the number of cigarettes he used to smoke.

I think that it is a political joke to demonstrate that he can do some long range smoking.

These missile the Norks keep dumping into the sea, you'd think that the Japs or Yanks would be retrieving them for analysis.

The world sees Wunbadhaircut launching them higher and higher and I see him digging bigger and bigger holes for himself.

Although the world and the USA have been pretty toothless in dealing with him so far. Just a lot of posturing and failed initiatives.

What goes up must come down ........ it's the part that comes down that is the problem. The splash alone is what you're worried about. One doesn't need a lot of analysis of that part

It looks as if NK isn't really designing new missiles from scratch, but modifying and improving old Soviet designs that they already had.

My guess is that the West already has a pretty good understanding of the capability of these platforms, without needing to risk trying to recover any debris that's re-entered. It wouldn't surprise me if there was a back channel from China to the West, or perhaps from Russia (or maybe just dissident Russians) to the West, passing intelligence on the capabilities of NK. The latter seems more probable, given that NK has used a former Soviet design team (the Makeyev Design Bureau) to kick-start it's missile programme.

I really don't understand why either the U.S.N. (Aegis) or Japanese S.D.F. haven't knocked one of short fat wuns test pieces out of the sky the moment it enters Japanese air space. Just to show they can and will. I accept that to do so in international air space might be more controversial.

I think the USN or JSF are quite aware of the possibility that an attempt to shoot down one of NK's missiles may fail and in doing so,hand NK a massive propaganda victory.

I have no doubt they carefully track each launch and are ready to launch interceptor missiles if the predicted trajectory shows it landing anywhere where they don't want it to land.

Observing the actual trajectory is probably useful in terms of gathering information on their missile development progress too.

China's point of concern is valid

The US point of concern is also valid

The two are mutually exclusive

If they did knock one down it might just cause a pause and rethink oooop north!
He knows at the moment all that will happen is a volley of noisy rhetoric heading his way. If some one breaks one of his toys he's not totally in control anymore?
If they miss they don't have to tell him about it.
From what I understand by the time they reach Japanese airspace and or territorial waters his missiles are almost at the end of flight so almost all collectable data has been collected.
Be lucky

This is starting to look like a scene from Groundhog Day.

Missiles go a flying and then the U.S. shows force.

Why don't they just mail it in by uploading some video that shows the bomber force capability? Would save time and fuel to be sure.

We all understand the danger here and that one cannot be flippant about it, but these shows of force are rather quotidian at this point.

It's to get the other guy nerved up enough to be bored with the vigilance without a chance to earn a medal for valor.

Then you try something different

it will continue until the game is played out or another competitor enters to expose their hand

Russian Bears are regularly reported in the press as being escorted out of UK airspace, when in fact what they have done is enter the UK FIR, most of which is outside of UK airspace. I'm not familiar with equivalent boundaries in the area under discussion but I would be very surprised to learn that the recent NK ICBM actually entered Japanese airspace, rather it entered one of the Japanese FIRs

They claim that it entered their economic zone which I guess means "no fishing allowed"

That means it's subject to seizure and loss of its catch
