Just watching Sunday Japanese TV talk show, and they mention reports of Russian military movement towards the DPRK/Russo border. We have already heard that the Chinese have stationed 200,000 troops along their border with NK. The suggestion is that all the major players are being drawn together. The reason for the Chinese troops was earlier said to be to stop any huge influx of refugees from the conflict area. Could the Russians be wanting to counterbalance that?

The lion and hyena simile is not a good description. Perhaps a pussycat wearing an outfit that makes him look like a lion - or looking in a distortion mirror that shows him to be as big as a lion, might be a far better simile.
The problem is the Little Fat Wun is a master at playing off one hyena against the other, thus ensuring his repeated survival. However, it will only take one hyena to grab him, and he'll be squealing like a doomed cat.

The troops are there to send him a message "BACK OFF NOW". If the Americans did cross the DMZ then the Chinese and Russians might move in as well on the pretext of defending the North, but in reality to limit any US advance while they install a government acceptable to all sides.

With no nuclear weapons to bother about anymore, the Americans could withdraw claiming that their objectives were achieved, the Chinese and Russians would have a compliant neighbour instead of a lunatic rattling his sabre and destabilising the region.

I wouldn't put it past the Chinese to use NK to make a quiet deal about some sandbars in the South China Sea

Or....what is far more likely.....the Chinese will move in and clean house to be done with theses miserable pricks!

The Russians will standby to see what pickings of the left overs can be had.

The Americans, South Koreans, and Japanese will applaud China's taking care of the problem!

Guess they forgot about the Vinson's buddies. They are always around.

Carrier Strike Group One, (CSG-1 or CARSTRKGRU 1), is a U.S. Navy carrier strike group. USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) is the strike group's current flagship, and other units current assigned are the ship’s Carrier Air Wing 2 and embarked Destroyer Squadron 1, deployed with Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Lake Champlain, as well as Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers USS Michael Murphy and USS Wayne E. Meyer.

Not to mention a sub or two.....hush.............

Perhaps KCNA has a more realistic assessment ?

The army of the DPRK already declared it will deal merciless destructive blows at the enemies so that they would not come back to life again should they make reckless provocation.
If our Juche weapons with potentials unimaginable by the U.S. open fire, they will destroy the U.S. forces and their stooges to the last man so that there would not be left even a single man who will sign the surrender document. The group of aggressors can never evade our nuclear strike whether they are on the peninsula, at military aggression bases in Pacific or in the U.S. mainland across the ocean.
It will be useless to regret after taking a single step wrong and bringing ruin to oneself.
The U.S. Trump administration had better behave with discretion, bearing in mind that its fiasco will bring tremendous consequences incomparable with the political failure met by the preceding administrations.

Those of us in the Northwest corner of Europe are starting to feel a bit left out now that the Corpulent Un has included Oz in his list of those who will see its cities in ashes.

What have we done to deserve this snub?

Uncle Fred, just be glad that you are far enough away for the time being from the reach of unpredictable characters. Russia appears benign besides. Children can sleep soundly. Yesterday we had a practice run here when an incoming missile warning played on national TV. I knew such a system had been set up, but hearing it the first time was a slight surprise.

Point well made and a good reminder that this is, at its heart, a very serious matter.

Last year I read a book called Command and Control by an American author named Eric Schlosser. A very sobering look at a number of catastrophes that were avoided during the Cold War--some way too close for comfort.

My point with that is that even with the Americans and Russians having, nominally, strong control over their stockpiles and launch procedures, Doomsday was on a couple of occasions narrowly avoided--only some quick and rational thinking on the part of a handful of officers kept the worse from occurring.

With the rhetoric streaming from the mouth of the Fat Un added to an uncertain rigor in Nork's weapons procedures who knows what can happen? Mistakes can, and will, happen. When they do it could be bad ju-ju for everyone in your neck of the woods.

Pyongyang is roughly half way between the DMZ and the Chinese border. With most of the DPRKs defences based on an attack from the south the Chinese would be in the capital long before the Americans.

A pretext could be agreed with Washington sending a squadron of bombers to South Korea threatening a first strike. The Chinese cross the border threatening the Americans that they will stand by the North in the event of an invasion. Fatwun has an unfortunate accident, a new government is installed. The Chinese withdraw, taking the Norths nukes with them and the Americans sail away.

Alternately the Chinese make it clear that if he keeps drawing the Americans in then they will need troops in place in the DPRK to protect their interests.

And on another note, the Rodong Sinmun, ie 'Labo(u)r Newspaper': "In the case of our super-mighty pre-emptive strike being launched, it will completely and immediately wipe out not only the US imperialists' invasion forces in South Korea and its surrounding areas but the US mainland and reduce them to ashes."

Is that the equivalent of another nutter declaring "Mother of all battles".

He'll be flicked aside like a fly off a cow's arse.
